I usually find the best way to drink Aftershock is to let it rest on your gums, and move the liquid around your mouth a bit for about thirty seconds. Your mouth will start to heat up pretty quickly, but once you get used to it being there, it's easy enough to gulp down then. You get a big fu*king kickback from it though!!!

Yea i have had plenty of absinthe in the past.

It is a greeny coloured drink that some say was the cause of Van Gogh cutting his ear off in a drunken absinthe episode

It is like 70% proof or something like that. And there is a special way or 'proper' was to drink it. I cant really remember exactly what it was, but went along the same sort of lines as how you're supposed to drink Tequila. But I am sure you used sugar or lemon.......Someone remind me please!!

But to be honest it isnt as strong as i thougt it would be (and wanted it to be!), the most potent drink I know of and JUST CANNOT be drank without some sort of chaser is WREY and NEPHEW RUM Now that drink is serious i tell ya............

Thats not real absinthe.

Its an ersatz or faux absinthe which some companies market as absinthe but isn't really.

For example, Vodka has to be at least 37.5% prof otherwise, technically, its not vodka.

I'm nearly sure the stuff they sell in the UK isn't proper absinthe. Its watered down.

One of my favourite cheap plonks is from the Ernest and Julio Gallo brand. It's called California and it's a White Grenache. Don't be fooled though if you buy it, it's a rose. I can highly recommend it.

The ladies like it as well. :;):

A friend of mine imports wine from Bulgaria. I ordered 6 bottles from him on Saturday. Love the stuff.

yea probably the reason i didnt get as bladdered s i had expected then, but the Wrey and Nephew stuff should be banned too in my IMO!!!

I have never drank enough of the stuff for this too happen, but apparently Absinthe when drunk causes you to hallucinate and see a green fairy. A few people I know have said they have seen the green fairy when drinking absinthe.

I'm actually a fan of Aftershock. A week or two back, I was in the Jacaranda with my mates on a Friday night. I'd had a skinful at this point, and me and my mate were at the bar and I ordered two Aftershocks. It went down too fast though. As soon as I had drank it, I stepped into the gents, promptly threw my guts up, wiped my mouth with my sleeve and carried on drinking. I was all the better for it as well. Cleared my stomach.

Was absolutely rat-ar$ed.

In the reveloution in town they put this sugary looking thing on fire for about 30 seconds then drop it in the absinthe which in turn sets that on fire and then they stir it until it goes out and as soon as it goes out you drink it, I thought i handled it quite well untill 20 minutes later i was dancing like a n0bhead, it sends you well and truly sideways but if you dont mind making a right t!t off yourself, its well worth a try........And i can reveal to LFC 1 that i saw no fairys from what i can remember!!!

Jonny in the Jacaranda are the pints still about £1 20 and the jukebox still a pound for 10 songs?? We used to go there after work in me old place about 2 years ago but havent been back, you couldnt walk out of there sober, it was a permenent happy hour!!!

If you want topnotch "real" absynthe, you need to go to Paris. It's the sort of stuff that makes you feel a bit wonky by just looking at it. The stuff you get here will get you drunk, that stuff will have you talking to the 18ft tall, walking Dandylions. I don't know what customs would do to you if they found it on you. Probably just a slap on the wrist and I dare say you could argue ignorance.

At the moment, I am drinking Pepsi Max, but I'm going out this afternoon so I'll probably move on to the Pimms.
