Roux ends Auxerre career
by Alex Dunn -  created on 5 Jun 2005

AuxerreGuy Roux has ended a career on the Auxerre bench which stretches back to 1961.

The French tactician has enjoyed a remarkable longevity at Auxerre that has seen him at the helm for 44 years.

However, in order to pursue other activities, Roux has decided to call time on his career at Stade Abbe-Deschamps - with an announcement made on Sunday.

Roux finished his career at Auxerre on a high after clinching the French Cup with a 2-1 win over Sedan.

"I have decided to quit," Roux, 66, told TF1. "I am not retiring, I am just changing my activities.''

Roux's time at Auxerre saw him take the club from the regional division to the top flight in 19 years.

Under his tenure, Auxerre clinched all their four French Cups and won the championship in 1996.
