i don't really think it's fair to compare the two teams. what is for certain is that the 2001 team were far more consistent because they basically had hardly any injuries. in that treble season i think the back four of babbel, hyypia, henchoz and carragher played virtually every game.
agree with stu that the strikers, in that treble season particularly, were far better than what we have now. heskey had a stormer of a season, owen scored something like 10 goals in his last 6 games of the season, and fowler also weighed in with his fair share.
however one thing is for sure, i think if houllier was still manager, we would approach this game tomorrow in a much more defensive manner than rafa will. ok we still have to be solid at the back, but under rafa i think we will be much more positive when we have the ball.
