Scotland has often gone into tournaments with decent teams and done terribly (like Spain), they are also probably the only teams to lose to England via penalties (ok, stretching mcAllister's 96 peno miss)

Both of them struggle to speak English :grinning:

everton are the tight ones, they were playing at anfield when john houlding i think it was asked for a small rise in the rent.
they :censored: off so mr houlding started liverpool fc.

To be fair, the record books show Mr Houlding wanted to double the rent.

Steve Nicol "a decent squad player" FFS. The guy was superb. Even Hanson said he was one of the best players in the team. I felt sorry for the guy when he was still there under souness with all the rubbish around him.

Steve is a legend and better than most of the overpaid overhyped prima donnas around today.

Yes it's not often that Leon calls it way wide but he has there. Nicol was a brilliant player. Towards the end of his Anfield career he played mostly at centre-back and despite not being the biggest was class. Just what we could do with at the moment to be honest, classy and a good solid pro.

I did not say he was cr@p, just that he was nothing spectacular. He was one of my favourite players at the time, despite the stars around him, in the Carragher/Joey Jones mould of cult hero.

I have probably done Stevie an injustice, but what I meant was to highlight that you do not need superstars in every position.

Stevie Nicol was great

Anyway my point was is Spain the new Scotland as in will they provide the spine of the team as the jockos did all those years ago

And should we really see Spain as foreign these days in the new europe etc.

I remember that header, amazing.

Scotland proved themselves in the LFC team, Nicol, Hanson, Souness, Dalglish - all of them absolute legends.

Spain is the new France. GH bought only in France (is seemed that way anyway) and Rafa is the same with Spain. Only Alonso looks top class. If Garcia stops giving the ball away everytime he gets it and continues scoring he'll be up there with Xabi too. The others are forgetable.

It will take a few years and a lot of medals before they'll be in the same class as the Scottish lads.

Where are all the scottish footballers these days?

Scottish football is a mystery to be honest. Last Century they prodused some truly world class players but they have gone off the boil lately.

I dont know enough about it but I assume theyre having problems from schools level upwards and arent picking up talent.

is anyone here from Scotland who could shed some light on this

i know, it's quite sad really. it must be a nightmare having the scotland job because quite simply they don't have the players. i saw a bit of aberdeen vs dundee united a few weeks back and there were 18 scots on the field which bodes well, but the question is, are any of them good enough? how many are making it over here now? barry ferguson couldn't hack it over here. the likes of james mcfadden and darren fletcher are hardly what you'd call first team regulars at their clubs are they?

unfortunately, the old firm set the tone by bringing in a load of cr@p foreigners a few years back which held back the scottish talent they had coming through.
