The players I mentioned are not of that calibre, I was saying that we should be able to produce players of that quality (the ones I mentioned, i.e. Nunez, Josemi, etc) rather than having to pay fees and go abroad.

I guess this comes with the territory when you bring in a foreign manager. Rafa knows the Spanish market best so he get La Liga players to come in and do the job. I imagine this will change as the boss gets more familiar with English based players.

If Warnock comes good from the current crop of youngsters (I believe he will) then the Academy is doing it's job. Maybe not a brilliant job but a job all the same.

As has already been said, Josemi was bought as cover and Nunez was the only option from Real in the Owen deal. Finnan has improved ten-fold since last season, and Nunez...well, OK. Dodgy to say the least. I can only hope that it's a settling-in problem. To be fair, though, Josemi has been injured for ages on and off. At least he has got some heart. (If not ability).lol. Up the 'pool!

If Stevie goes, you cant find a better goal scoring midfielder to replace him with than Baraja. Maybe Michael Ballack.

And he'd fit much better with Alonso than Gerrard does. Steve for all his talents can be undisciplined roaming all over the place.

I'd take Baraja no question

Baraja is a great player, but I agree with some earlier postings that he will be 30 in July. Once most players hit 30, there form slowly starts to deteriorate and you have to remember that Baraja is playing in the Spanish League which is a lot slower than the Premiership. You are basically asking for a player who is getting to the age of being slower to sign for a club in the fastest league in the world. With Alonson and Garcia, they are in their prime and capable of handling the step up to Premiership pace. Baraja could be another question all together. As for Liverpool becoming all Spanish, lets hope not. I always believe it is bad for one team to have too many players from a country that is foreign to the league they are playing in.

I agree, i wouldnt be happy spending 12 million on a 29 year old. He is a decent player but doesn't exactly set the world alight. I would rather we were in for Vicente...a quality young winger who scores a lot of goals.
