How did the kop get its name?

Can anyone tell me how it got its name. I heard it had something to do with the Boer War in SA. 'Kop' means 'head' in Afrikaans.
Interviewer: 'Would it be fair to describe you as a volatile player?'

It is do with something about in Boer War, try have a look at website of LiverpoolFC.net. They might have some information about Spion Kop.

The Kop got its name from the famous Boer war battle of speonkop in Natal, South Africa where many Liverpudlians were killed fighting for the Royal Lancashire Fusiliers - which was later immortalised in the song "Scouser Tommy".

no , no ,no , it wasnt as intricate as that , stop fantasizing.
i know its great to romance and dream up these special ideas,
but the real reason it was called the kop was because some italian bloke had an argument with a scottish bloke who dropped a penny and they had a scrap over this penny , the italian called ivor farted and the scotch bloke called adrian said "hey ivor, you should say 'excuse me' when you break wind"
so ivor retorted 'no i shouldnt' , but i think i'll name the busy end at anfield the kop'

There was a battle fought at Spion Kop in the Boer War and a Lancashire regiment with a large Liverpool base suffered heavy casultites. Kop is hill in Afrikaens and a number of other clubs had kops ie Sheffeild Wednesday albeit not as famous as Liverpools.
