That day you were born was the day I started my relationship with Liverpool.  It is the earliest game I can vividly remember.  I still have the grainy episode of Grandstand on video that we taped that day.  I was six years old.  When I watch it, I know most of Motson's commentary before he has even said it.  I have seen that game more than I have seen another 90 minutes of football.  I can name you both starting 11's, the substitutes, who sat on the bench injured, the referee's name (Alan Robinson), the two linesmen's name (Allan Gunn and Robbie Hart), the lot, the time on the clock when the goals were scored, (27, 57, 63 and 84 if you're interested), you name it.  I love that FA Cup final........

What a day to be born..........

What a video to still have, I've seen the game many times but not as many as you mate lol.

Cheers all for the welcome

Yeah, Des Lynam looks like a porn star, Emlyn Hughes, a young stuttering camera shy Andy Gray and Barcelona manager Terry Venables were the panel at half time.

If I remember correctly, the Goal Of The Season was decided at half time and was won in this order.  D, H, C,

1st Bryan Robson Israel vs England. right foot volley from the edge of the box from a Hoddle cross, well deserved goal of the season.

2nd Johnny Metgod - Notts Forest vs West Brom- piledriver free kick from 30 yards

3rd Gordon Davies - Man City vs Watford - good move down the right, David Phillips cross and Davies with a diving header.

You can check if you want, I promise it's all true.  I'm not making it up.

The word Anorak springs to mind. :D :D :D

I remember Metgod well, a very good player, but Gordon Davies escapes me.

The 86 final was great stuff: I remember well watching it on telly as a 9 year old.

Anyone here actually at the game that day?

Is it also true that there were no English men in the Liverpool starting 11 that day or did Steve McMahon start: I cannot remember?

Steve McMahon was a non-playing substitute.

Liverpool had a non-English starting 11, but Mark Lawrenson was born in Preston. :)

Gordon Davies was a Fulham hero before playing for Man City.  Played in the same Fulham side as Ray Houghton.  Black hair and moustache.  Ring any bells?  Struggling to find pictures of him on the internet.

For your information, this was the game the goal was scored in.
