I remember the guy very well, but how come he gets such a cult following? He had a flag dedicated to him at Cardiff ,why do we love him so much?

he was a badge kisser and a half, every time we got a corner or the flow of play took him anywhere near the stands he started waving his fists and kissing the badge in an effort to lift the crowd.
the bloke wasn`t exactly di stefano as a player but we admired his spirit.

He scored in a UEFA Cup tie last week, by the way.

We signed him from Leverkusen for the 1999-2000 season.  I think he scored four goals in total, but come close on many other occasions.  He was a big brute of a striker, but we signed Heskey late on that season and we let Meijer go.

He was in Dortmund a year later supporting the team in the UEFA Cup final, getting pi$$ed on the streets with the fans.  I'm sure there are a few members on here with their photographs taken with him.  He is a kind of cult hero among the fans because he gave 100% every game.

Meijer was mint, he loved the fans and used to get us going, I always remember when he's go to take a throwing and wave his arms to get the crowd going, not the best player in the world but worked very hard which is something LFC fans appreciate, he's a good bloke and always says good things about LFC which is why he's always welcome at Anfield (to watch of course :p )
