i dunno, im only 19 and i was always taught by my parents not to buy that rag, it was when i was bout 11, the  10th anniversery of hillsborough when the documentary was made, it was then i really realised why, and since then i have tried to learn more about the disaster.

pardon my maths, i might of been 13 when the 10th anniversry, but 11 when the documentary was made, my old manager lost his brother in the disaster aged 19, and he had to identify his brother from polaroids shown to him.  thats what really gets you about hillsborough, we have all met people who were there and know somebody who lost somebody in the disaster.  that is what i suppose is the main objection to the s*n, they have never never liked liverpool and the stereotypes are outdated and dont bother me, but the insensivity angers me

i still wouldnt read it then

Do you think 1M is enough?  Thats about 10K for each of the victims.  It's been quoted that they have lost £100M in lost revenue in Merseyside.  £1M is not enough.

i totally agree with you, i was fuming when he said that, made me even more full of hatred for he Scum, if they have any guilt or remorse they will sack that bloke and do the right thing ie give a shed load of money to the families and the justice campaign, then do whatever they can to repair the damage in the paper itself , ie grovell and use there paper for the fight for justice, asking for forgiveness is not the way forward earning it is what they should try to do, maybe after 16 years of that people may start to buy the paper again, but still doubt they will be forgiven.

And then he had the cheek to make fun of the families when he got out side. Sh17 faced fu(k wit

Parents accept Sun apology

Stephen Brook
Tuesday February 15, 2005
The Guardian

The parents of two children who died in the 1989 Hillsborough stadium tragedy yesterday became the first relatives of any of the 96 victims to publicly accept an apology from the Sun newspaper for its coverage of the disaster.
Jenni Hicks and her ex-husband Trevor, who lost daughters Sarah, 15, and Vicki, 19, in the tragedy, said they accepted the paper's apology, but were not prepared to forgive it for its claims about Liverpool fans' behaviour.

"I don't want to cause any offence by my views or my opinions but I do accept [Sun managing editor] Graham Dudman's and [editor] Rebekah Wade's apology on this," Ms Hicks said.

"I know it's a very, very sensitive subject in Liverpool and I can understand why, the things that were said at the time were absolutely horrific," she told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"However, if the Sun can do what Graham Dudman's saying they will do and campaign for us, perhaps it's time to move things on."

The Hicks, both members of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, received several calls of support in a phone-in, but the majority of callers were against. Other members of the group have refused to accept the paper's apology.

The tabloid has offered to seek justice for the families of victims but only if they accept its apology. "I think we need them to be with us," said Mr Dudman.

"Any campaign is only going to be successful if you have the people you are campaigning for supporting it."

i mean people on merseyside in general, only a number of families who lost loved ones have accepted an apology anyway. i think you will find the overwhemling majority havent, i know people who were there on the day and people who lost loved ones and i know they wont start buying the s*N tommorrow just because they apologised..  i wont buy the S*n ever again.  im not trying to be some hard man, im just telling it how it is. regardless of who accepts their apology i for one will not 'buy' the act that they are putting on to increase sales

im sick of tits like you trying to impress everybody else on the forum by taking trying to make yourself look better by misinterperting one of my comments, and acting offended and having a rant about it

I watched that program on BBC2 the other night and I have to say my contempt for the Sun has actually increased after watching that.

I haven't read any of the replies on this thread yet so apoligies if I'm going over what has already been said.

It is a blatant attempt by this rag to sell papers. The fact that they are dangling the carrot of campaigning on the families behalf (providing they start buying the paper of course!!) is sickening beyond words.

I did not lose anyone at Hillsborough (I'm not even a Liverpool fan) but I just wanted to express my disgust after watching that programme and let you know it's not just Liverpool fans who are sickened by the Sun and its "apology"

thanks mate, although the aplogy has been accepted by the family they have not been forgiven.  i think the s*n has done enough damage, they should just leave the families alone
