But if we are on a low budget why sign bunch of players on a loan? Wouldn't we still have to pay their wages? You don't really see the big three sides in the Premiership signing players on a loan. I rather us save money for the opurtune time and then purchase a class player such as Alonso,Morientes,etc...

We need a midfielder but what good midfielder could we get on a loan at this point of time? None really, unless you want to settle for below average players. I'm sure we will sign good players in the summer because if we advance in the CL,etc... we will make more money giving Rafa a bit more money to spend in the summer.

The chairman of the club isn't the manager. If the manager thinks we don't need to buy another player then we won't. We're not Real Madrid where the chairman buys a player he wants and the manager doesn't want that player.

But yes we do need the money, the chairman of the club has given  money out of his pocket [thats what I've heard] but thats not enough, we need funds.

I'm certain moves are under way to secure us the funds Rafa needs to help him build a unit capable of competeing.

However I think Rafa is more interested in getting his philososphy across to the players he has at his disposal currently rather than try to work with a group half of whom  may not be starting next season with him.

You make a good point, something I forgot to mention.

The problem with signing a couple of players on a loan is the whole geling part. Most of our new players haven't adapted completely and gelled with one another so why sign more players that may not be here at the end of the season?

Nunez,Garcia and Pellegrino[especially Pelle ] have not gelled with their team-mates because the whole squad has been injured and Pelle lacks match fitness, supposedly he wasn't supposed to start any games unless Hyypia or Carra get injured.

We could have signed Anelka and then in the summer he would have said that he wasn't happy and moved on. Not really a team player.

6 players for us.. i think that should be enough..give players like le tallec to have a chance to play.

Yes it is! The reprecussion from losing out of CL place is more than just a financial one. It will mean the current squad will missed out of vital big match experience against the cream of Europe. It will mean the name of LFC will fade even further, and it will affect the chance of top players joining and the attractiveness of the club to any potential investors, not to mention all the good players we have left in the team will be fished by the big teams. And yes, it will affect the funds available to for future transfers (to the tunes of £15~£20M).

Not a be all and end all? Think again...

But if the manager think we need a couple more players, and the chairman tell him we are out of funds, then we won't be signing any players. Period!

IMHO this is most likely the scenario.

Anyone here seen enough of Dawson to let me know if we have missed out on a quality signing?

I recount that Anelka took his time to settle. He had a few quiet games before his performances started to improve dramatically, and by the end of the 2002 season he looked like he was maturing into a really decent player.

I think that is why Anelka is remembered fondly: he didn't start with a bang before sizzling out, instead he started slowly but made steady progress and it looked like we were witnessing a rebirth of the "great" Anelka that everyone saw at Arsenal.

Dawson would have been a good buy for us along with Pennant and maybe, Bellamy on loan, cause if we get any more injuries we are ****** big time.
Whats going to happen if Milan or Stevie get injured ???
Kiss 4th and CL goodbye im afraid.
And we need 4th spot now more than ever so Alonso, Morientes and Cisse can play against the elite of europe.
Deja vu from last season anyone?
Were we knew on the wednesday before our last game against newcastle that we got 4th spot.
And spurs are going to be the one to watch where as for the last few years its been us and Newcastle.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

And Everton still have to play, Chelski, Arseh0les, the Scum and us at home.  Hopefully, they can loose 12 points there!

i agree its disappointing in many ways that we haven't boosted the squad further. there is no doubt at all that we are seriously under strength. but there ARE good points... in morientes we have made the best signing out of anyone in the whole window, maybe the whole season. we have also brought in carson - a keeper in the bank - and pelle, who may just become a decent defender shortly. we've also brought le tallec back and smicer is back from injury - so in real terms we have 5 new players we didn't have at the start of the season and have more strength in all the areas we've all discussed. not top top quality (apart from the onvious exception) but decent enough.

in the near future we'll have kewell coming back and nunez. i think we'll see how much we've been missing the overly criticised kewell when he's playing again and the chance to see some proper wing play on both wings with him and nunez on the field is something i'm looking forward to. that also allows us to put garcia back in the support striker slot where he belongs and plays much better gives us more strength up front than many realise.

its going to take time to get the best out of all these newer players but at least we're getting more players available and will begin to pull out of the desperate situation of the last few weeks.
