Rafa has nothing to loose by signing players that can give the young players experience, the board may well have told rafa to do what he can in the mean time while new inveatment is sorted out intime for the summer transfer who knows?.

The only downside of this transfer is that he is CL cuptied other then that its looks to be shrewd bit of business for a stopgap back up player

Now lets just all calm down aight guys? :P It's a free and hes experienced - good backup for Cara and Sami and might even give em an extra boot up the ****** to work and train harder. Lets look forward to it.

It's sad when RB have to sign someone who is on free . The fact is that the club that we love don't have money to spend . :(  That's really makes me sad .

Dont think its because we have no money..!!

Its more of "taking the opportunity that knocks on your door". Its a golden opportunity to sign a quality signing on the free...so why not?

DOesnt mean that we are only looking for free signings!!  :Oo:

Pellegrino is a good defender with a winning mentality. He has won the spanish league a couple of times, the argentinian league, domestic cups, european cups etc. So I guess he must be really bad then?  He was part of the best back 4 spain have seen for years. Benitez has been working with this guy, and he knows exactly what he is getting. And Liverpool can simply not afford to buy big at present. This is a very good deal for us. Very good indeed. Nice work Benitez.

i cant see why anyone is complaining over this transfer, pelligrino is a proven quality defender who has performed at the highest level for years. People are complaining about his age, but we are squad very short on experience, i think he could prove to be a very good signing

Thumbs up on this signing ,He is quality and he is old so he aint gonna moan about warming the bench like Hencho and when he retires Hyppia can take his place and the new YOUNG defender will have his experience its an ever turning wheel :).That way the defence stays pretty much intact and no major changes need to be made a natural Transition u might say.How many times have we seen team try and throw to class center backs together only for them not to be able to play together this way it all go's smoothly

when people are saying "Rafa's old boys" don't they mean previous players he's managed, not their age?

Anyway in regard to the signing of Pellegrino, perhaps Rafa may have signed as he knows him well and knows he can have a positive effect in the dressing room and training ground rather than signing him purely for his playing capabilities

There's not a better positional defender in the Premiership than Pellegrino. The existing defence should be able to learm a great deal from this man and with luck we will see an end to the awful distribution of Hyppia/ Jimmy T etc (Jamie C a notable exception).
We've everything to gain an nothing to lose.
