Lfc broke or being sensible

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Paul C » Fri Dec 24, 2004 9:40 am

I know thw purse stringers are tight at the moment but are we as broke as people are making out or is Rafa trying to be sensible with OUR money, personally I think it's a bit of both, I think that amount of money GH spent on sh1t3 players was pointed out to Rafa when he took the role by Moores and Parry but I also think that Rafa is not the type of person to go out and spend £20m on a player if he wasn't worth it, you only have to look at the Valencia squad.

What's your opinion  ???

My opinion is that Liverpool is in dire need of a fresh injection of cash and that Moores may want to step aside provided he is being compensated - the new investor(s) will have to buy him out in the process. However, this will go to moores' coffers and deprive the club of a bigger amount of funds (the ideal investor for Moores is one who puts money into the club after buying him out).

After posting record losses and with some £15 million liabilities (doen from almost £19 million last year), Liverpool while not quite broke is seriously short of money to buy new players. Also, Benithez is a more prudent person than Houllier and he won't blow  £14 million on a player like Cisse.

He is probably a nice bloke, but as a Chief Exec' he is too weak. He has failed to look after our player assets when it comes to transfer sales, vis. Macmanaman and Owen and has presided over some some incredible foolishness in the Houllier era with respect to purchases, we pay over the odd's every time, often for poor players.
How has he allowed the costs for the New Stadium to spiral out of control ?
If the man worked in my business he would have been sidelined long ago.
I would not like to see the man given control of a new and increased budget.

the cash is at the club, but its been earmarked for the new stadium, which is becoming a millstone around the clubs neck.it maybe better to forget about the stadium for the time being, and use the money to build the squad up so we could challenge chelsea and arsenal. ??? ???

I think liverpool is short on cash full stop.  The fact that we announced record losses (although if you take out houlliers pay-offs and the £32 million spent on transfers we actually made an operating profit at least ) underlines this point.  We need investment

. any transfer is gamble... Let's not forget that Houllier brought trophies to the club to add to our historical collection...

.. however the club does have debts of at least £22 m .. ppl like Owen promising to stay and then leaving at the 11th hour was unforseen,  Parry did have a contract on the table for him,  well in advance of his eventul departure. (BTW Owen and family are in HELLO magazine.. this week )

... The new investment is clearly important bothe for the development of the new stadium and re-building the team..

The continued dithering on a new deal does not help.. but it will also be the most important investment deal completed... and therefore crucial to get right...

.. The club has always been in the market to buy quality players.. at the right or sometimes inflated price.. that I am confident won't change..

Not broke, but we are trying to be sensible, when Benitez came he said that he didn't find it sensible to srop the whole years transfer budget on a single player.  He is obviously more shrewd. I personally see that as the defining difference between Benitez and Mourinho.  If Benitez had Mourihnos funds the premiership title would be locked up already.
