I see this quite often - LOL ! what does it mean? please enlighten me !

It's either "lots of laughs" or "laughs out loud", not sure which....

When someone else has made a comment you consider amusing or if you are making a comment which appears serious on it's face but infact you mean as a joke or sarcastically.

e.g. Igor Biscan is the most gifted centre-half in Liverpool's history (lol...!!)
