75 years young!!

The man was a legend. Had the fortune of meeting him back in the late 80's when he visited my local club and gave us a training session. Never forget that as long as I live.

My hero growing up, he was a rock star in the 70's. Bill Shankly regarded Kevin as the best signing he ever made. He was one of the most influential figures in our entire 134 year history.
In the 50 years before he arrived we had won 3 League titles and 1 FA Cup. Despite not seriously challenging for years in his first season we finished just a single point behind eventual champions Derby. He was literally a 19/20 old kid at this point taking the team and indeed the club by the scruff of the neck.
Over the next five years we won 3 League titles, finished runners-up twice, appeared in 2 FA Cup finals winning 1 of them, won 2 UEFA Cups (when they were regarded as being as hard as the European Cup to win) and of course put a MoM performance in in Rome to help us win our first ever European Cup.
The year he left we were an ace away from completing the treble back in the days when doubles happened twice a century.
When he joined us we hadnt won anything for about 6 years, we were just one of a group of about 6 or 7 clubs including Leeds, Everton, Man United, Arsenal, Derby, City etc who had all had a bit of success in the 60's and early 70's, when he left we were clearly the most dominant force not only in England but on the entire continent of Europe too.
When Kenny signed for us we were already the best team in England and the best team in Europe, it was Kevin who took us there, that red number 7 shirt was already the most iconic shirt in English football before Kenny even put it on.
RIP my hero
