Not sure if anyone has put up an official discussion post for Howard Gayle, but I did a quick search and found nothing...
Anyway, thought I'd share this.

Fair play for him for being honest and up front with his reasons for not accepting it.  :nod

Brilliant from Gayle  :nod  All working class should refuse these honours that enable a system that has kept them under rule for hundreds of years and more.

Break the system  :buttrock

Yep, fair dues to Howie, the honours system is a complete joke, ordinary people have to do something amazing to get a gong whilst members of the establishment (including David Cameron's hairdresser) get them for doing f-all.
The entire thing just stinks of cronyism, the honours system should be scrapped.

Good on him, the fact that anything associated with the British empire is still in existence is a disgrace.

Yep!
What's also enlightening is the list of names that have done likewise at the end of this article:

Other honours snubs
LS Lowry - the painter turned down a total of five honours, including an OBE in 1955, a CBE in 1961 and a knighthood in 1968

Benjamin Zephaniah - the poet spurned an OBE in 2003 saying it stood for colonial brutality and slavery

David Bowie - the music legend turned down a CBE in 2000

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders - the comedy duo refused OBEs in 2001

John Lennon - the Beatles legend returned his MBE four years after accepting it in 1965 in protest against the Vietnam and Biafra wars

JG Ballard - the writer rejected a CBE saying he was opposed to the "preposterous charade" of the honours system
