Because it was denied by Auxerre and the player and it was paper talk. Until things are officially confirmed and its a dead cert i will never in my life listen to any stupid link or story the newspapers make up.

it was OFFICIALLY denied by Auxerre. Thats good enough for me.

I don't want to start a row Stu :D but Boumsong's contract is up in the summer, allowing him to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.

Legally speaking, under the Bosman ruling, it's none of Auxerre's business who he talks to.

In this case seeing that as he is over 23 there will be no money changing hands between the clubs so if Boumsong and his agent (as well as Rangers) announce that he has signed a pre-contract for Rangers then I honestly don't see any reason why we should disbelieve him.

The only thing funny is that the player is only entitled to start pre-contract negotiations 6 months before the end of their contract. Most player's contracts end on the end of June, and as Boumsong made his announcement in end November/start December....do the maths yourself!!

But Stu, we haven't had a scrap for a few days so we won't start now!

Exactly :) Players are not allowed by fifa regulations to sign any pre-contractual agreement before January 1st of the year there contract expires.

stu_the_red, then I guess Guy Roux, the BBC, and Uefa are all wrong.

12/16/2003. Auxerre coach Guy Roux has expressed surprise that defender Jean Alain Boumsong has decided to join Rangers when his contract expires.

"I didn't know that and I certainly didn't expect that," Roux said of the move.

"I'm very, very surprised at this because he could play anywhere in Europe.

"It's really none of my business because we can't afford to keep him, but I expected to hear that he was going to Italy or Spain, not Scotland. It's his choice though."

Rangers happy
Earlier, Boumsong had agreed a five-year contract with Rangers starting next summer, when he will be able to leave French football on a free transfer. Rangers manager Alex McLeish was delighted to secure his services, saying: "It's a good bit of business."

Rangers seal Boumsong deal

Auxerre defender Jean Alain Boumsong has signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers and will move to Ibrox in the summer.
Rangers manager Alex McLeish told BBC Sportscene that the French international will commit himself to the Scottish champions for five years.

"We are delighted to get a player of his cailbre," said McLeish.

"It's a good bit of business for Rangers. He is a player that was being valued at £10m at this time last year."

Boumsong, who turned 24 on Sunday, leaves French football under freedom of contract and that allows Rangers to meet his substantial wage demands.

Strictly speaking Stu, I think it is 6 months prior to the end of a contract that a player can sign a pre-contract deal. As most players' contracts begin at the end of June (commonly recognised as being the end of the "season" in Europe....Italy, Spain etc), January 1st would be the first date that such a player could sign a pre-contract.

However, if for some reason the contract expired in May, then the player would be allowed to sign in December, so Boumsong's Auxerre contract must expire this May. Its unusual. I'm not 100% on the point, but you are almost right Stu about the 1st of January thing.

I enjoy your football side of your posts, your xenophobic bigoted comments i can do without but hey one day you might grow up. Then you might realise  how proud you should be that your local club is supported all around the world and that sun never sets on the Liverpool empire. As others have also mentioned that all cash the global support brings in to the club helps pay the wages of those stars you get to see in the flesh every home game
My one and only visit to Mecca back in 1986 is a experience i never forget not just for standing in the kop watching the greatest team, but for warmth and friendlyness of Liverpool people that i encountered during my short stay.
When i think of Liverpool home supporters i remember them

Liverpool F.C being respected and supported around the world for their brand of football...I thought that should make you local lad proud instead of constantly being rubbished by the likes of "stu the red". If Liverpool F.C played near where I live, I would have been a season ticket holder, no doubt about that. But I lived 6,000 miles away and still have the same passion as most of you...that says a lot about my loyalty and love for this club

I think it is easier to support a club when you are from and grew up in that place and all your friends support the same club. Those that support their club from overseas have to work harder to follow their team ie the information is not readily available (untill now with the internet).

There are many fans around the world that follow Liverpool passionatly, and many have never been to Liverpool. With the effort they put in, they will always be "true" fans (even though the Houlleir days)

Stu - You talk some sense in football matters from time to time but you offend every single non-scouser with Liverpool in their heart every time you question their right to support this great football club. That is why you are the 2nd most unpopular person on this forum.
