Reds to visit Thailand and Oz

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Reg » Wed Apr 03, 2013 4:07 am

Liverpool have confirmed that they will visit Australia for the first time this summer after announcing a pre-season friendly against Melbourne Victory on July 24 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

They will also play a friendly in Thailand as part of their pre-season tour ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

The five-time European champions will face as yet unnamed opposition in Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium on July 28.

“We first went to Thailand in 2001 and this will be our fourth visit to the country, which we feel demonstrates our commitment to our fans in Thailand,” said Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre.

According to a news release on their website, Liverpool believe they have more than 14 million followers in Thailand. They last visited the country in 2009.

Can only hope we field the "first team" for the game as an acknowledgement for the support.

On the 24 July ? Possibly 45 mins of some first team players but not sure we would see players like Gerrard , Suarez etc going all that way. Great that they have sold out so quickly

Which is why I said "Can only hope"

Appreciate that in pre season it's all about getting the entire squad ready for the big kick off but I do kinda feel sorry for those fans that turn up (in this instance 77,000 of them) hoping to see their heroes only to find they're mainly watching a mixture of youth, reserves and maybe two or three star names :( .
