Hence the LeBron marketing deal. Not rocket science is it.

The deal is primarily to do with Asia, not the US.

If it was about the states, we'd be touring there. It isn't!

Sure it will raise our profile slightly in the states but as mentioned before football is NOT a major sport in the states. I do not expect in my lifetime for football to dislodge NFL, NHL or NBA as a major male sport. It won't happen.

All I care is getting revenues going up, which leads to more transfer funds and better team investment in our team.

Exactly, hence the LeBron deal. I can see us aggressive attacking Asia to be number one Premier League team in terms of support and subsequently revenue. LeBron and his company will help our appeal spread to markets we normally would not get exposure to, markets that Man Utd currently don't have access to.

The key now is to use the Asian funds to invest into a team that wins things. Bring on the summer!

Well he's all 6'8" inches of muscle and one of the most athletic nba players ever so maybe we can ask him to play as a goalie if reina leaves?

I've always wondered how basketball players will fare as goalkeepers they've got all the right abilities for a keeper.. Ball handling, fast reflexes and superior athleticism... All they need coaching is probably positioning...:p and they might be susceptible to low balls :D

I think they might get bored. Not to mention the distinct lake of kicking ability.

SCS that makes perfect sense as the Asian market seems to be the target right now.  Billions of people with almost nobody to cheer for, it would do us good to get some control in Asia.

However, if LJ actually starts wearing Liverpool jerseys, which I'm sure he will sooner or later because how else we he be incorporating Liverpool to the Asian market, I can guarantee you that Liverpool fans or people buying Liverpool gear will shoot up in America, it's just the way it works.  If Liverpool made a LJ line of clothing, nuff said, Americans would catch it like wildfire and LJ and Liverpool would make a lot of money.

Asia may be the main reason we did this deal, but Henry and FSG are very smart people.  They know that they will benefit from the American market as well.  FSG tells LJ how they can make him money in Asia by teaming up with him.  FSG makes money and LJ make money in Asia, so they are both happy.  LJ already makes his money in America, but now FSG can make their money in America too, and whether LJ knows that (I'm sure he does) Liverpool will be the ones profiting from the American side of the business for it.

Of course the benefit is there for the US market but the strategic reasons are in Asia.

Note that the deal with LRMR/LeBron is with Fenway Sports Management (FSM) not with Liverpool FC. FSM are the global marketing arm of Fenway Sports Group (who own us, Redsox, etc).

But as the deal includes a minority stake in Liverpool FC, I hope any money coming our way as part of the deal is given to rebuild the team!

I guess Fenway know what they are doing though its seems a mystery to me why someone would start buying Liverpool merchandise just because their favourite basketball player bought a stake in a club and puts the top on. I assume hes also committed to promoting his own team in Miami so unsure how they will stand with it all. Doubt I would be rushing out to purchase a Miami hat just because Suarez took a stake in their franchise but then again Im in me 40s!  I do however encourage all Asians to ignore this post and to purchase a Liverpool shirt at the first opportunity  :)

Ya I agree, I just can't imagine that FSG weren't thinking about the money that can be made in the US from the deal while making it.

And yes it is FSG. Lebron was talking about how he's dealing with the Red Sox as well, but it's strictly business because he's a huge yankees fan.

Haha.

Like I've said before.. You'd be surprised... For some reason even tho people are struggling like mad right now to pay the bills, Americans still love to blow money on things like that.  Like I said with the Atlanta Braves hat.  Right now there are baseball team hats that are made by 59-50, I don't know if they sell them where any of you guys are.  I know that I would never buy one, but they are the biggest thing right now, and they cost $59.50.  For  fecking hat... that you could buy for $20 from the actual team, but with no sticker on the bill that they keep on.  It's fecking ridiculous.

If he started wearing Liverpool merchandise, people would start wearing it too.  They think it's cool and for some reason they think it makes them more of a basketball player.  Just like people buying air jordan basketball shoes.  People buying brands based on who their favorite athletes are.

It really is ridiculous.. but it will work in our favor.

It's a situation that we can only benefit from, there's absolutely no way we'd suffer from him buying a minority stake but it gives us more publicity and a bit of airtime in the states so its good.
