A lot of the bombing was to hit home the reality of war to the german race as a whole to avoid another one

Versailles etc after WW1 and the fact that no fighting took place in Germany.

You can see now the difference in european philosophy to American philosophy as weve been through it a lot more qand it aint nice.

But yes the atrocities on the Eastern Front were policy but as Ive said were all a few steps away.

In a football thing how far are fans from screaming for their team and passion to attacking opposition fans how many people have you seen cross the line and be honest or have you ever nearly crossed that line yourself yet I assume we would all criticise hooligans even though Ive got real close friends in the Soul Crew and disagree with their actions but they are still close friends who know I support Liverpool and go to watch them but dont go a mile from my house to watch Cardiff but I go to concerts with them and socialise but I dont run amock on Saturday afternoons but on a one to one basis Id stick up for all of them as really nice people.

Odd eh  ???

That human behaviour does fascianate me and scares me

John Barnes' Granny wrote:I think the main difference between the warring sides in WWII was that on the German side, atrocities against civilians and Communist Party members on the Eastern Front was policy.

Yeah the German frontline troops were initially welcomed in the Ukraine as liberators but when they moved on and the the support troops and police divisions moved in things began to change and indeed it was policy to "liquidate" communists ,real and suspected.
:(
Equally all german SS troops and members of the Gross Deutchland Division (not SS but an elite regular army division) were regularly executed out of hand if captured.
Of the almost 100,000 prisoners taken at Stalingrad less than 3000 lived to return to germany many remaining in Russian work camps for up to eight years after the war ended .
