People can call Hodgson Woy and still support him - it is possible

anyway he certainly has my support 100%, I quite like the idea of him being manager now, though I admit I found it hard at first but now it feels more fresh and exciting, I cant wait to see who he signs and then get the season going

Good luck Woy

So what your saying now Greavsie is your calling him Woy as a term of affection? I just don't get that mate, he's the manager of our football club and it doesn't seem to afford him much respect. I'm sticking with Roy.

no, I didnt say that at all. What I'm saying is that calling him Woy does not suggest support or disgust for him, thats all

What does it suggest then?

Roy is called Woy, just about everyone in football calls him Woy or has done so before, they dont all hate him. All the name does is have a bit of fun at his speech impediment, its harmless. That said I draw the line at calling Glenn Roeder tumour boy
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Just a few of the names I saw banded about by so called LFC memebers on here whilst Rafa was in charge. Not that I don't agree he should be respected but you are preaching to the choir. Im sure if results start to go tits up Woy will come back out.

Agreed. Though in the main Rafa wasn't called a "clueless idiot", "fat c..t" etc., he was disrespected in less vulgar terms and the meaning was no different. For instance, to characterise him as a "shyster" who was in cahoots with the "money men" was the sophisticated version of calling him a "conniving c...t". Similarly, the equivalent of calling him simply a "c...t", was to call him a "nasty person". The intended meaning of all of these terms was to denigrate the man's character and integrity, and nobody should pretend that for an insult to be deemed an insult, it has to include a swear word.

In the same way that I didn't like the way the previous manager was characterised as being "in bed with Hicks", that because of this he would "DEFINITELY be here next season, (and won't go to Inter)", and such like; I don't like the the way Roy has been portrayed as the owner's stooge, only there to allow them to execute a fire sale as discreetly as possible. Disrespecting his name doesn't do anything for me, either.

That's exactly what it means, our supporters taking the mick out of his speech impediment.  :glare:

Exactly. Mods should delete this nonsense of a thread trying to tell people what they can and can't do or say. People should stop taking themselves so seriously with pet hates, not everyone is going to say things you always like or agree with so get used to it.

Then dont reply.  I believe in what I said hence why I started the thread.  I dont demand your ludicrous stats stuff gets deleted.

I understand that people are angry about Benitez going and the chaos off the pitch but you and others are mocking the new manager BEFORE the season even starts.

All i think is wait and see what happens and like the facts and quality stuff wiith Rafa it could become endearing.

As it stands now it sounds like childish petty digs

funny how saying 'woy' is a bit of fun, but calling Rafa fat was 'bang out of order'.  ???

I wouldn't worry too much Taff. I remember when we signed Peter Crouch, before he'd even signed there was uproar on here. People said that as he'd played for Southampton and had six months previously been in their reserves, he couldn't possibly be ever good enough.

If Roy had got Udinese to the Europa League Cup final, or Racing Santander, the vast majority of those who slate him or are disrespecting him would be all over him. If he does as good a job as I think he will, there won't be too mnay taking the p!ss.

It's nice to see some of the guys who did have a pop BEFORE he became our manager now changing tack, that's the way. It's Liverpool not some jumped up Salford globetrotters colection of money grabbing mercanary c...s. Royis the manager, call him what you like but as long as the people in the ground get behind him (and they will), it's all good.

You are right. If Roy does brilliantly then it means that LFC do brilliantly.

Me and you will never agree about Rafa end of.  But he has left as others have before him and we now have a new guy who I pray does brilliantly.

If we win the league it will be Roy doing it not Rafas old team as we won the CL with Rafa not Houlliers team.

But I will never NEVER join in with anti Rafa talk

Bravo.

I find it mildly amusing that people want to make an issue of whether folks call him Roy or Woy.

My favorite Rafa words were (still are) Car-ra and Ger-rad, I just hope Woy makes a similar impression/connect with the fans.

Until then lets find something more intellectually challenging to talk about eh?

The "issue" as you call it is that we, LFC fans are mocking our manager before he has even started.  Hodgson himself is aware of this.  We who used to be quite unique are rapidly becoming a shambles.

If that is not intellectually challenging for you and you find the thing mildly amusing then I apologise for not having flippant and intellectually banal views that some people seem to enjoy.  I was under some bizarre impression that football evoked passionate views and we were passionate fans
