Same team that did Private Ryan trying to make it as realistic as possible. After watching Private Ryan a few of us popped in to the working mens club on the way home makes you see all the old codgers in a completely different light.

Stalingrad is another good book but berzerk that was one crazy war

My specialist area is war on the eastern front . I have nothing but total respect for the german soldiers bravery and endurance.
Some unbelievable heroism shown.
Look out for a book called "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer, it'll bring tears to your eyes.

And you call me "klink"!

The hardships both sides endured on the Eastern Front were incredible and the German military was often left in hopeless situations by some of Hitler's bizarre hold fast orders, but any sympathy one might have for the ordinary German soldier in the eastern front in world war two evapourates given the awful atrocities committed by the ordinary Wehrmacht (who would like you to believe that it was all the SS' fault) on the eastern front.

Fair comment JBG, but by the same token not every "ordainary " soldier was a beast.
Atrocities have and always will be commited in war by soldiers of every side .
You think we british are innocent ? talk to some para's about goose green .
