Who would win in a game of LFC players with one team being players who come from English Speaking countries: England, and  Ireland. vs. Spanish Speaking countries: Spain, Argentina.  Here are the squads (players on loan are eligable)
Spanish speaking:
                          Reina
   Arbeloa     Paletta     Roque    Insua
    Duran    Alonso   Mascherano   Leto
                Torres   Pacheco
Bench: Mikel San Jose, Ronald Huth, Antwi

English:
                        Carson
Finnan        Carra         Hobbs    Threlfall
Pennant     Gerrard       Guthrie    Hammill
                 Crouch     Lindfield
Bench: Anderson, Peltier, Darby, Spearing, Putterill

(not sure if Carra meets the English speaking requirements  :D  )

I think I would have to give it to the English speakers.

I'd agree...especially if you include Kewell! :D

Actually, if they could find a RB, the team of "left overs" would look pretty good too:

                 That Bulgarian keeper

       ?       Hyypia      Riise      Aurelio

Benayoun     Lucas   Sissoko        Babel

              Voronin         Kuyt

Bench: El Zhar, Idrizaj, The Hungarian lads, Jordy whatshisname...

Well can't the Spanish speakers count with Carra? I heard once him saying Hola!! and you lot admit he doesn't speak that much english.

:D

If so, the Spanish speakers can win. With that centre backs, they can't.

Maybe one of San Jose, Huth or Antwi should replace Paletta?

Can't believe I forgot Kewell, probably because I am such a big Hammill fan  :D

Bad Bob. I would def play Agger and Hyypia as CBs and have Aurelio play wrong footed on the right.  And Itandje at keeper is probably the safer option.

Feck me...how did I forget Agger and the French keeper?  :O

I think the "left overs" might just have the all-round quality to carry the day.  I mean, look at that line-up...that could be one of Rafa's teamsheets (hopefully only for a Carling Cup game :D ):

                     Itandje

Riise        Hyypia       Agger     Aurelio

Benayoun     Lucas    Sissoko    Babel

               Kuyt        Voronin

(Joe, I put Riise on the right and kept Aurelio at LB because Aurelio's got a better left peg for swinging in crosses on the overlap.  Conversely, Riise at RB could cut inside and unleash a howitzer with his left foot on occasion :nod ).

I reckon there could be a fourth team of "Scouse speakers"--Carra and Gerrard against the lot! :D

On a side note, the Spanish-speaking side is weaker (on paper) than many might expect...especially given the old cliche that Rafa only ever buys Spanish.  I think these line-ups demonstrate that Rafa (mostly, although Houllier gets some credit) has been prepared to bring in talent from all over the world.

San Jose had little Segunda *B* (lower than segunda) experience, let alone top level competition. In fact, one friend I have in Bilbao is quite surprised he's gone to Liverpool. Decent future prospect yes, but he has seen lots like San Jose in the last 20 years...

Maybe this is why we are still going after Hienze? Rafa wants this game to be more even.

Interesting post that also highlights the depth of LFC squad this season.

Well, the left overs look most exiting to me, but it's really hard to determine a clear winner here.
On paper all 3 sides could do fairly well against most PL teams.
