Maybe not the best EVER, but Hyypia has got to be up there. No one had heard of him and he only cost about 2.5 mil. If Liverpool had decided to sell him at his absolute peak about one and a half to two years ago he would have been worth 15 mil easily. Glad we kept him though!!
This new era. Cisse, no doubt in my mind that he's the missing link up front. Alonso looks like a superstar in the making & Carra in the middle putting Hyypia in the shade. Dont forget Berger from the Evans era Fowler From Sous era Barnes from Kennys Era.
Very hard to pick any individual from the late seventies to mid eighties, you got Barnes, Beardsley, Mcmahon, Rush, Souness, Aldridge, Hansen, Lawrenson.......the names just go on. Fairly obviuos I'm gonna say Kenny, but as a Liverpool and Scotland fan I guess I could be accused of bias!! As for recent times....maybe Redknapp, my favourite player since Kenny hung up his boots, but I think baros could become a very influential player in the near future. By the way, Traore.... a much improved player under Benitez, but I don't ever see him being the best we ever had!!!!!
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back
Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road
Even though Daglish cost a huge amount of money at the time, he proved to be a legendary signing.
Ian Rush, Alan Hansen and Steve Nicol cost hardly anything and went on to be legends.
As for Traore, even if he cost "only" 500,000, there at least 50 players who came for similar amounts (adjusted for inflation) over the years who had 50 times the impact Traore has had on Liverpool. What drugs are you on Mick?!?
A little too young to remember daglish, so my choice will be rush. I still remember the record he had for so many years. If rush scores liverpool does not lose.
For me, Rush is the most complete striker we ever had.
To be fair JBG, I did say 'in modern times' and use the word 'value' very clearly. That said, it was a bit out there come to think of it. I think he could become a good player though. Then again what do I know? It wouldn't be the first time I've posted up some nonsense, remember Earnshaw?
in terms of influence i would say litmanen and mcallister, both had bundles of experience and just being there was an added quality, i felt sorry for jari as he didnt get the opportunity to flourish and mcallister i firmly believe turned our potential treble season into in fact reality.

So it seems to me to be ANY Liverpool signing.
GK;Tommy Lawrence, Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar. DF;Alec Lindsay(superb crosser of the ball),Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes, Alan Kennedy,Phil Thompson, Mark Lawerenson, Alan Hansen, Sami Hyypia. MF; Ian Callaghan, Ray Kennedy,Terry McDermott, Graeme Souness, Jimmy Case, Steven Gerrard. STRS; Ian St John, Hunt, Keegan, Dalgleish(sp?), Rush, Owen.
Overall I would pick; Goalkeeper: Clemence. Defender: can't pick between Hansen and Lindsay. Midfielder: Souness, Gerrard. (The spanish trio need to settle in, a part of one season is not enough for me to judge) Strikers: Hunt, Dalgleish.
Best ever signing? I agree with whoever said it before. Shankley....He started it all!!
