The christmas period

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby RichardLFC1 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:54 am

The Christmas games always seems to shape the season with so many games in a short space of time. We do currently sit 6th however we are 3 points behind arsenal in 4th and I think the run of games around Christmas will help us hugely.

Firstly our squad I personally think only Manchester city boast a more stronger squad than us. We have atleast 2 players in every position which I feel could easily win any game. Whereas tottenham
Who if lost bale Modric and adebayor wouldn't be a threat in the slightest. Man utd they list vidic for the season and really panicked stressing they MUST buy in January. Arsenal for me you take RVP out and they would struggle and finally Chelsea they have a strong squad however there defending options are weak and I don't think the players trust the manager

Secondly the fixture list Hasn't been the cruelest to us.

The christmas games start on the weekend of the 18th this year as then we start playing every 3-5 days

Possible 15 point but I reckon we'll take 11 points from that lot.

Wins against Newcastle, Man City, blackburn 9 points
Draws against Villa, Wigan 2 points

The man city game away will be tough however we have longer to recover from our previous match.

Also think it will show what tottenhams about. They have some tough games with a very weak squad

only City away bothers me out of them
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

We're still a team in transition. We've beefed up our midfield and defence (we have the best defensive record in PL with Man City) during the summer but our strikers' department was neglected and are now paying for it. Kenny probably thought A.C. was good enough, that's why he didn't sign another striker but emphasized on midfielders whom he hope would supply the ammunitions for Carroll  but so far he hasn't lived up to expectations.

Look at the strikers that we have at our disposal, Carroll, Bellamy, Kuyt and Suarez.

Bellers and Kuyt are the Jack of All Trades who can play in the wings or strkers but they are not specialist frontmen strkers, Suarez's finishing are generally not good and Carroll, sigh.... I think we all know. With the way we're going, I personally think we'll finish at 6th again, possibly 7th if Newcastle can get their act together.

To stand any chance of finishing in 4th, it is crucial that we get a quality striker in January and hope Chel, Arsenal and Newc will drop points and we on a winning run. Otherwise it's 6th/7th place finish again. With the current squad we have, I'm sure we'll play good football and creating chances during this Christmas period against average sides which the Liverpool of the glory days would have thrashed but I'm not confident we can win most of them due to poor luck and poor finishing.

So please Kenny and Comolli, get a quality striker in January.

Also, I've noticed we seem to lack confidence in many games and are contented to sit back and defend whenever we score whenever we're  leading 1-0 and do not have the hunger to kill off the opponents by trying to grab another goal. In the QPR and PL game against Chelsea, I noticed we were excellent during 0-0, but after we scored, in both games we were laid back and the opponents had most of the possessions. Liverpool seems to be contented with a 1-0 win nowadays and paid for it in the Chelsea game when Sturridge equalised and all pointing to a 1-1 draw but luckily we were saved by a Magic Johnson solo effort at the end.

I am all for Liverpool to finish in 4th spot but I can be impartial as well, if we fail to finish 4th with this kind of football, I'd say we deserve it.
