LFC2007, getting dumped by my long-term girlfriend never hurt as much as losing Benitez as our manager.

Are you being serious ?

I was one of Rafa fans and was disgusted with his sacking and the glee some had when it happened but "you wept for two days" ?!

I was upset for two days yes, I didn't eat properly either, I also couldn't sleep and to be honest I've always pined for a return of Benitez and I probably always will. Benitez to me embodies the true qualities of Liverpool football club and I am honoured that he was our manager and the memory of Istanbul will live with me until my dying day. I am delighted to say that I watched all of Benitez's tenure as manager of our club. A truly great man and a man who will not be replaced.

That's a bit personal isn't it?

I'll give you a clue. I have been supporting Liverpool football club since 1995, I was 6 years old then...

I guessed you were a young lad because Kennt leaving was heart wrenching , Joe leaving was heart aching , Bob leaving was a disaster when I was a young boy. Rafa left because he took his mind away from the job and into the politics , his last season was awful.

It was sad to see him leave but "2 days of mourning " ?!  Blimey.

It was quite bad, when a manager spends six years at your club and does so much to make you happy as a supporter and then suddenly it's all gone, it was hard for me to take, you know, this is the man who gave me Istanbul 2005, Cardiff 2005, Athens 2007 (so close, yet so far), he instilled in me a greater sense of pride in belonging to this club as a supporter. He gave me Champions League nights season after season and he came so close in the Premiership. On a small budget and no budget at all, he worked nothing but wonders and magic and you know what I liked best about Benitez. He stood up for this club and it cost him his job, it severely damaged his reputation as a manager, but you know what sums up Benitez, the tears he shed at last years Hillsborough memorial service. This man was more than just our manager, he was our flag bearer as our club went down the creek. He was our first line of defence and he never jumped ship, he stood by us when we needed someone and I don't care what anyone says that man is the best thing to have happened to our club in years and those idiots who turned against him are now calling for his return. It's true that you don't appreciate what you until it's gone. Maybe people should have appreciated Benitez while he was our manager because we've done downhill ever since he left.
