Why we should never be taken over - By a billionair.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 48-1119859832 » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:00 pm

I hope we are never taken over by a billionnaire, I am a firm believer in grafting hard to achieve things rather than just splashing cash here 'n' there. I'm also strongly against Billionnaire businessmen investing in football, football is fast losing it's identity as a sport 'n' rapidly becoming more corporate, in the sense that lots of clubs are placing themselves on the stock market (PLC) becoming a brand. It's a shame that football isn't about sport anymore just business. :(

It's like the difference between taking a less fulfilling, lower end job at a big firm on better wages rather than a better job on lower wages at a smaller firm.  (I'm not saying Chelsea are a bigger club than us so to speak, but they are more likely to win regular trophies than us in the near future)

Thats the best real world example I can give anyway.

Exaclty, Man United being the prime example to the extent where they changed their name to Manchester United PLC from Manchester United Football Club to become more marketable. Scandalous.

Good post Cig. At the end of the day this Chelsea fairytale won't last for ever. It can't. The fact that they're rumoured to be signing Ballack (and paying him £121,000 a week) proves that the world has just gone mad. However at the end of the day, this Championship Manager style will eventually end up being detrimental to them as they'll be severe unrest in the changing rooms from players who aren't playing regularly.

In the short term though, nowt can be done. Frustrating, isn't it?

How do you compete with a team that has lost a quarter of a BILLION pounds in the last two years, spent a quarter of a BILLION on players in the last 3 years or so, AND strictly speaking are £200m in debt. Its utter boll#cks, isn't it?

???

Excellent article and a great read  though i do have to disagree with this rather cosy rose coloured remembrance of ManU. (yes i cant stand them so im not impartial)
Yes they certainly had  avery successful 90s and they did   nuture a lot of home grown talent. However they also had some very deep pockets and bought themselves quite a bit of talent as well. We also had the arrogance of Fergie, the surrounding of refs, the threatre of penalties etc.
I rather give credit far more to Arsenal and way they went about acquiring their titles

I for one hope they do, at the end of the day they can only play 11 players, and Ballack will demand first team football every week, his ego is a bit like Mourhino's in that matter, and the more players that go there an upset the dressing room the better it is for us.
Plus Fergie is short of a midfielder in the shape of Ballack and if he doesnt get his hands on him the better it is for us.
as our midfield is a match for anyones, Ballack wont improve Chelsea much more than they are now.

stmichael,if you were a billionair and you obviuosly want to see us get better and better, wouldnt you want to buy the club and commence the building of a bigger stadium, bring ranaldinho, etoo and sheva here?
I know i would... its every liverpools fan dream,to see us do well, actually be the best so,i wouldnt mind a millionair taking over the club so long as he's been a lifelong supporter of the club and his interests are our interests.

Over to you ciggy...

i've got a conspiracy theory on this ballack signing because quite simply it doesn't make sense. like you say lynds, his ego is massive and for this reason it doesn't seem like a typical maureen signing.

if they want ballack it appears to be for one of two reasons:

1) frank lampard is leaving next season and ballack is seen as an ideal replacement.

2) maureen is leaving.

now let me see. i can't think of any massive clubs who are looking for a manager right now. oh wait a minute, what about that club in madrid? nah, maureen would never go there with that stupid interfering president, oh i forgot he's just resigned hasn't he.

you heard it here first folks. :D

You forgot Number 3. St, so no one else can sign him  :;):  Probably the biggest reason of them all.

And off the bookies I go!
I really hope they do, let an offensive and football loving coach take over Chelsea, let Maureen go to Real Madrid and play his :censored: counter attacking football over there.

Not that it'll happen as the new President of Real Madrid said he'd have no more primadonnas in his squad.  Wait, that might not apply for staff members...  ???

The funny thing about that is everyone assumed Perez resigned due to his interference and insistence on signing galacticos in positions, which were already strong. The decision to sell Makelele is IMO the single most stupid decision made in world football over the last 5 years.

Well their new president is a close friend of Florentino Perez and insists he will keep with the whole "galactico" policy, no change at Madrid then me thinks.

Perez was an idiot, end of.

Despite winning two La Liga titles and two European Cups, he thought that Del Bosque didn't fit in with the image of the club and sacked him.

Incidently, that summer they turned down the chance to sign Ronaldinho because "he was too ugly to be a galactico."

Staggering.

the one plus of the perez era was he did take them from being hugely in debt to making them the richest club in the world. But yeh, from a footballing point of view he was a bit :censored: really.

Chelsea will sign Ballack for the same reason they signed SWP....no else can have him.
