Where do we go from here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:12 am

Right we are practically 3 quarters of the way through this season, what started off to be a promising exciting 2004 ended up being a very down and dissapointing one for us fans with umpteen injuries.

We couldnt wait for the transfer window opened to see who was coming in and who was exiting, so far only Diao has gone on loan, and Henchoz to Celtic, Le Tallec back from loan and a Smicer that we havent seen for seems like years.
We have Carson if he lives up to his reputation of being a great buy for us we will see he didnt cost that much so cant complain.
Then Pellegrino was bought for cover but personally I cannot see him playing for us next season I think he was brought in to teach this zonal marking for the defence, with bags of experience, and maybe to attract some players from Valencia with its great here etc....................... :D

Morientes fantastic player pure quality we havent seen the best of him yet and what hes capable of but we will very soon no doubt.
Would he have been bought if Cisse wasnt injured? I think so I think Rafas always been a big fan of his and we should be proud that a player of such caliber wanted to come to us no doubt having Rafa and Alonso persuaded him to come.
Plus if Owen had not of gone there he wouldnt be with us now so maybe things will click into place eventually.

So here we are 3 new additions to the club more transfer activity than other other teams, but I feel more reinforcements should have been brought in maybe onloan, I feel every season we miss out on bread and butter players you need them in the team, them that give it there all no superstar status. Just hard working players the likes of what everton have fighting for the cause proud to be at such a fantastic club like LFC, you need these type of players with quality around them in a team, we used to have it years ago but has it gone to such an arrogance we are LFC we dont want mediocre ???

Well some players we have signed over the years have been mediocre and cost an awful lot of money, Cheyrou, Biscan, Diouf to name a few, none of them lived up to there reputation of the new Zidane etc.................................. :glare:
with the 120-150 million been spent on players over the past 6 years we should have well won the premiership for the first time, cause we have never won it, we should have won the champions league aswell, we have never won that either.
We have have been league champions 18 times never premiership winners, manure now on 15 catching up dont you think? European Cup 4 times but not Champions league.

We are so far behind manure on terms of players willing to fight for there beloved fans and there beloved sir Alex it makes you sick, like them or loath them and loath I do, there is no denying they are a good consistant team, with some great players.
Now we have chelsea looking like they are going to be winning everything in sight for the next decade, how are we going to catch the top 3 up?
We have no consistancy what so ever ok we are hit with aload of injuries now but what about the last 5 years?
Are we just going to be that team trying to get 4th year in year out just for the money? we have been doing this now for 15 years and its about time the board woke up and realised this, cause its depressing its getting us fans down.

Now I didnt want to bring this up but its in the limelight again, since his appearance on MOTD spread across every tabloid week in week out  .
Steven Gerrard will he go will he stay doing its usual rounds, he doesnt help his cause nor does he help Liverpool football club with his statements, he is our captain he should focus on the job in hand captaining his side, but when the captain is unsure of staying what must the players feel like?
What must Rafa feel like?
He asked for 3 quality signings he got them Cisse, Morientes and Xabi Alonso, the boss is doing everything he can possible to build a team around him and he repays us with BLACKMAIL, maybe we should go back to the shankly method, rafas wont take no prisoners either, strip him of his captaincy give it to Jamie Carragher, let him rot in the reserves till the end of the season and make him realise who hes playing for who gave him his first major break onto the football scene etc................................................
But we wont and we cant and he knows this, dont get me wrong I idolise him, I was tellin everyone to shut up and leave him alone last week and stick the 30-40 million and will be doing the same tomorrow night if he plays well.
Call me a hypocrit I dont care, only saying these things cause im hurt like most of us are, aand we dont want him to go, but everytime we hit a bad patch this story is always going to reappear.

Lets try and look at the possitive things now shall we hopefully we will win the Carling Cup and Rafa gets his first piece of silverware, and the new players will have a fantastic day at Cardiff and be revelling at the atmosphere from the Liverpool fans in a great venue.

Get behind the team in the Champions league, no slating the manager his job is hard enough as it is at the moment and hopefully we will progress further and maybe get the chance to lift our first Champions League cup, Its not impossible and it would be one in the eye for all the doubters and the London media, that we are a great team with fantastic history and always will be.

YNWA.

I hope so. I'd like a win soon (pref. against the addicks) not just for me, but for the players as well. Also it would be nice to see some of the old "we're the best team in the world" threads turn up again.

Far to many players at our club in the comfort zone, just for the salary at the end of the week, dont really care about the club or dont play for the jersey or fight for a place in the team, Smicer has been an example of this over the years, his contracts up the end of the season wether Rafa extends that contract is another matter.
He cant play really well then once he has an extention go into laidback mode again, I think Riise falls into this mould sometimes aswell he can have some blinders then some games where you dont even know hes on the pitch, Harry kewell another.
We need players with fight drive consistancy otherwise we are not going to move on any further than we have been the last few years.

I think rafa has something up his sleeve for today. I just dont know who he will bring in, but we definately need someone in mid right now. We have had some big and small names linked with us, but Rafa will get the job done.

Have Fainth in the coach, when you start doubting the coach, you start doubting the team.

As usual Lynds, a post bristling with scouse passion. I agree with pretty much all of it, particularly the part about signing some 'bread and butter' players. Some players that when we go 2-0 at Southampton are gonna say "hey lads feck this, THESE LOT ARE SH!TE! COME ON!!!". Bread and butter players like Mcmahon who become top players. Players with passion and fight. Can't fill the team with 'em 'cos you need quality around the edges but you definately need a few of these guys. Jamie Carragher? step forward my friend, thank God you're here. Olivier Barnard? come on down. Thomas Graveson? things not working out at Madrid? lets have a little chat.
Whenever you suggest signing anyone who wouldn't get in a World 22 you get laughed at, "not enough class mate", "filling the team with mediocrity" but at the end of the day, somebody's got to provide that spark and we aint gonna be able to rely on Stevie for too much longer me thinks.

CGGY (or should it be MGGY!!)  I agree totally.  Our team havs no heart & soul at the moment.  I can't blame SG totally for this, but he is a contributing factor.

I remember when GH came to the club.  At various stages, he ripped it's heart out - James, Fowler, McManaman (should have sorted out the contract sooner), Redknapp, Thompson, Riedle, Barmby, Wright, Ruddock, etc.  Signing about half a dozen foreigners in his first season.  Team morale was destroyed in his first year, and I don't think it fully recovered.

I think the level of comeraderie which existed with the "boot room" era need to come back.  The players need to have some pride in the club - instead of just an employer.

SG needs to remember that he is not bigger than the club.  Benitez needs to ask him if he is 100% committed to Liverpool FC.  If he says yes, then Benitez needs to get his assurance that he is committed to the club for the next 2 years.  That is how long I think Benitez needs to get the team he wants around him.

If SG cannot say Yes, and cannot give Benitez the reassurrances, then I'd strip him of the captaincy.  There is no point having him as captain if he isn't committed to the club.  He can also clean the other player's boots !!!!  :D

We need all our players to want to play for LFC and it's fans.  Not just some of them, or those waiting for a better deal elsewhere.

And I thought SG was a diehard Liverpool fan?  He already has all the money he needs - he earns more in a week than I earn in a year.  Could any of us consider playing for any club other that Liverpool?  It's every fan's fantasy.  So why isn't it Gerrard's?

Only time will tell where this is going.  But I wish it would be sorted out sooner, rather than later. I'd hate to be at the same stage, this time next year.  Will he.... Won't he... FOR FU[K SAKE STEVIE MAKE YOUR FU[KING MIND UP, so he can move on and rebuild this famous club.  Famous with pedigree, not some fly by night team who have no history.
