I told my friend to let Marion know that I would not be going and I will not be at the station. Sadly that was to be the last time any of us was to speak to Marion Macabre again.

some nice posts here.

I live in the South East and started supporting liverpool back in the late 80s and went to Anfield in 1991. It was my first real football match and it was Liverpool vs Oldham, which we won 2-0. Rush scored in front of the Kop and after the match, while i was wating to grab some players' autographs, i met Bob Paisley! been a fan since then and try to get to several matches every year.

Being brought up in a rural area i wasn't able to get to any football grounds and neither my Dad or Brother were interested, so i started following this amazing team in red from Liverpool...... :bowdown

Great thread Dawson

As Aussie born to English parents, i grew up in Oz in 70s when there was no internet or live cable games. In fact enjoying football or soccer was very hazadous in the schoolyard as back then it was only a game played by poofs, wogs or girls.

The only live game that was shown was FA Cup and as 10 year old watching the 1977 final between Liverpool and Manchester United. Simply only reason i started supporting Liverpool was MANCs scored first and for some reason when I was a kid i use to barrack for underdog.

I use to cheer on Germans in war movies and Indians in westerns because they were always losing. Im sure the irony considering Liverpools record back in those days wont be lost on anybody.

I continued to follow the club through reading what i could from Shoot and Match magazines, watching English soccer highlights show and listening to the radio on sunday morning for all results.
( i never truly forgave my father when circa 1981 he came into my room on sunday morning after hearing results with big match against Mancs and told me Liverpool won..........then after a pause Manchester United Two)

I never understood Everton bitter rivally  back then, the Mancs were true enemies,  but still stayed up to early hours of morning outside house with a radio. Listening to a crackling live commentry of some of classic Milk Cup finals against them on BBC world service. Or watching a grainy European Cup victory win in 1981 on old black and white portable TV when one of commerical channels decided to put it on live and then having to head to school after about 2 hours of sleep. The up and downs of football was realised by joy of 81 and 84 to the agony of tragdey of 85. Sadly a harbinger of a greater loss which would happen a few years later

In 1986 my family moved back to England for a working holiday living in Kent for a year . I then realized a boyhood dream and made a fleeting visit to Liverpool. 9 years after becoming a convert i got my  Pilgrimage to my Mecca and stood in the Kop to watch Craig Johnston and Jan Molby score for a 2-0 win against Charlton. While memories have faded, the one overiding one was how much more friendly people were in Liverpool compared to the south.

I watched the Pool against in London against QPR which was a bit of disappointment as in those days Lotus rd had that astro turf and it was like watching a indoor game. Though contrast of atmosphere at QPR compared to Anfield wasnt lost on me.

Being the double year, it was a great time to be over there and back then supporting in the 80s League title with 2 points for a win  was expected to be wrapped up by Christmas. The horror of Hillsborough was a terrible blow and then barren 90s where only a shining light was called Robbie. In hindsight I was in denial during 90s still considering the club to be powerhouse of league and that title would be ours this year.

Nowadays its live games, instant  knowledge via the internet  though part of me (probably for childhood nostagic reasons) misses the old days of listening to a crackly radio.

Next year with Long service leave due, I will hopefully be returning to Europe for a extended holiday . Im looking forward to visiting mecca again after 23 years away.

I tired to defend myself as a Liverpool supporter to two englishmen that came into a bar that I was working in.  They were both Portsmouth fans in to watch a game live and laughed when i said that I supported Liverpool.

I woke up at 4:30 to watch a champions league game live when I had an exam at 9am the same day. I quit my job because my manager wouldnt give me saturday night off when we made the FA cup in 2006. I watch every single game, I will watch every single game even if we are not challenging/in the top 10/in the premier league. I bought 2 shirts in the last 3 years and this season I bought an e-Season ticket (watched every game including all pre-seasons live at 4:30 in the morning). Also I watch most things posted on e-Season as well. I sing along and know all the words to all the songs that are sung by our supporters.  I try to educate other Liverpool fans about issues such as Hillsborough and Heysel.

I also have this forum to thank for a lot of information, hours of reading material and hundreds of hours of (arguably) wasted time.

I know that I am not a local supporter or a season ticket holder (though I would love to be one in the future) but I think that I am doing absolutely everything that I can to support my team. When I do eventually make my pilgrimage to Anfield (probably new Anfield) I hope that I will feel at home among the supporters and that I will not be referred to or thought to be an 'ooter' or a 'wooly'.

I've been a Liverpool fan, for what, 7 years now!

I've started taking interest in football at the age 10, and I saw this fella called owen, scoring a magical goal  against argentina in the WC 98, so I started following him, I picked up a champ manager game back then, it was a champ manager 2000, and picked the team that had owen in, Liverpool ofcourse, from there I started supporting Liverpool, even I got alot of stick from manure fans from school telling me I made a mistake supporting them. Oh great god I was smart.

I've been watching liverpool games on TV always, Liverpool FC is my second religion :buttrock

The problem a lot of OOTs have is those that attend our games who are not members of forums.

There was three grown men at Anfield last week one was in his 40s in the full kit, shin pads and the captains armband on and footboots :no

Another two who where together in their 30s had some weird names on the back of their shirts, when it was looked up what it meant.

They where part of a vampire cult

This is the reason why OOTs get the p!ss took out of them.
but even the OOTs on here would agree these people need the p!ss taken out of them.

Vampires FFS
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

The only downside to being an "Out Of Towner" supporting Liverpool FC is the travel. The difference is when someone from Liverpool has a birthday, a ticket to the next match is an excellent present. To someone outside a ticket is nice, travel is also needed ! And from where im from, no one has the money to treat you to both !

I still have the photos on my wall from my first European Away game (Barca CL a few years back - 0-0).

I hope that if and when we get a new stadium built that it is big enough for people to get tickets on general sale. I would go to a game a month if not more if I could get tickets at cost prices.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

dawson99 wrote:ok, this thread doesn't need to be only for 'ooters', 'woolys' or whatever we are called, but is here to give examples of fans from outside liverpool, england, europe or wherever.
(also, i dont want an arguament, just thoughts of how it is for you to be a non scouse liverpool fan)

I'm from London, born and bred, and all i ever get is

'why support liverpool? support your local team!!'
Why don't I? And possibly more importantly...why should I?

My parents never liked football, and my family revolves around me, 2 sisters, mum and dad...and some scots...

So if my parents don't like football, and ive got no friendly uncle or older cousin to get me intofootball how do i find my local team? there is no way. So I get the tv... and I find a team that I like to watch play. I was 5 when i saw the 1981 european cup final. We won it, beat some team from madrid 1-0, and i was hooked. in the next two seasons we didnt do too badly either...

I dunno what it was like growing up in liverpool, but in north london up until i was like 12 no one really mentioned football, we played it in the park and all that but there was no real buzz. Maybe its the area im from. the nearest club is watford, and thats a fair old distance away, about 30 mins by car.

I got all the 'glory hunter' and all that support your local team as i became a teenager, and i didnt really have an answer. But then again, there were people supporting arsenal when watford was far far closer.

When I went to university I told some people that iw as born in liverpool and moved down when i was a wee'un. also when i was at university in hampshier i swear at my uni i was the only liverpool fan. It was bizarre, i dont rememebr a single other fan. There were however a shedload of newcastle fans... and they ran the uni bar. When we beat them 4-3 it was brilliant. i turned up in my top, and i gave as good as i got, one of the best nights ever had.

Anyway, im not from liverpool, so am i less of a fan? Possibly. I dont buy a season ticket, i dont follow liverpool around europe so im not hardcore.

Ive got every liverpool top since crown paints (given some away to ex's etc but who hasnt) and the amount ive spent on booze follwoing my team must run into the thousands so im not a nobody fan.

The Everton derby may mean not as much to me as it does to a 'real' scouser but the games when liverpool play london teams means more to me that you lot believe it or not. Us ooters take a lot of stick from all fans saying we are not loyal and we should follow another team but i really couldnt give two hoots. Supporting liverpool is hard for us, when we lose to all london teams i get immense stick, and when we win big i dont see any parade.

People from liverpool say they are bigger fans as they were born into it. i say im just as big a fan as i was not born into it. Its easy for you to support liverpool, much easier than it is for me. The stick we get from other fans and some of our own. Its hard work with little reward. Of course we do get to support the greatest team in the world...which is nice.

So next time someone from outside liverpool, england, europe or where ever is at anfield and you think maybe a teeny bit bad that a 'true scouser' isnt there. Think about what they have been through to support a team not the most liekd over the country. You have matthew street. thousands of like minded fans all togetehr living and breathing, bleeding liverpool. We have any one else we see in a liverpool top, a nod of appreciation...thats about it.

So, in conclusion, i may not have the accent or the right postcode, but im just as scouse in my own way as any other fan on here

(i really miss general chat)

I live in Brisbane, Australia.  I grew up watching Rugby League and hated "soccer".  My father despite being born in England didn't like football but I remember occasionally him saying "Ooh Aah Cantona".  I then got interested in Rugby Union as I got older as my father knew the best mate of the Wallabies coach at the time.  When I left school, I started to get interested in football, I started a full time job in 2002 and figured I should follow a team in England.  Arsenal were winning the league at the time so I didn't want to go for them and everyone in Australia either followed them or Man United so that didn't appeal to me.

Down the road from my work there was a specialist football store next to the takeaway food shops so I went in to have a look at the jerseys they had. I started talking to the guy behind the counter and said that I wasn't sure which club to follow.  I explained that my father who had emigrated to Australia when he was 6 years old was born in Widnes and that I still had family there.

Turns out he was a Liverpool fan and suggested that since Widnes was nearby, I should follow the Reds.  As I read up on the history and culture of the club I realised why by going to that shop I was going to end up following Liverpool.  The name of the shop was "Anfield Sports".

I have since got married and moved out of home but I always ensure that I can afford Fox Sports so I can watch the Liverpool matches.  It also turns out that my grandfather, while also not a football fan had been to a Merseyside Derby in the 1950s.

Next year I'm planning a trip to England for three weeks and hope to be able to see Liverpool FC in the flesh for the first time as well as attending Anfield for the first time.  I've just got to hope I can get my mits on tickets...
You'll never walk alone.
