TRANSFER BAN FOR KOP
Press Report 04 September 2005

LIVERPOOL and Leeds face the threat of a transfer ban for using an unlicensed agent in Harry Kewell's move, reports the News of the World.

FIFA plan to charge both clubs after a full-scale probe into the £5million switch.

And if found guilty they could be banned from any dealing in the next transfer window as well as being hit with hefty fines. Max Sport, a company run by Kewell's manager Bernie Mandic, received £2m from the transfer.

The issue was brought to light during Kewell's libel action against Gary Lineker. The FA had their own inquiry and handed the findings to FIFA.

Earlier this year Arsenal were fined £10,000 after using an unlicensed agent in the signing of Quincy Owusu Abeyie. Their transfer ban was suspended for two years.

The case against Kewell is seen as more serious.

A FIFA spokesman said: "I can confirm we are investigating the matter."

Excuse me, if Kewell's agent was unlicensed, whose fault is it.?

This Kewel fella looks like he is becoming a bigger liability .. lets see what happens

Z'babe, are you sure that transfer ban didn't kick in last week? :D

This won't happen. How can we get a transfer ban when Arsenal only got a £10k fine? ???

Yes they were but an Italian court lifted the ban so there was nothing FIFA could do about it. This couldn't happen in UK so Liverpool are in big trouble if this goes ahead. You would not be able to by my country man Gianakopolis.

St mikes right, we are getting pulled up for the exact same offence Arsenal made but i thought it was for Flamini not Owusu abeyie? cant be sure though, we will get a fine and a telling off, but there is no way Rafa should be handed a transfer ban when it was Houllier, Kewells agent and Kewell himself who pulled off this deal which is turning into as big a farce as the Ziege one, another Houllier transfer caked in embarrassment, think it should be Houllier getting the transfer ban, not the reds.

Totally agree as well, Rafa must wonder what sort of deals we did when Houllier was in charge, the ziege scandal, no this, dealing with Diouf, discovering Cheyrou had not been scouted or even watched by LFC when we paid 4 million for him. Over a year on but the stench Houllier left still lingeries in the air.
