Too complacent? - Used to mediocrity....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I wonder if we fans have grown too used to LFC's constant failures to even compete for the Premiership. Every year it seems to be "Oh well, never mind, we'll try again next year". It has been said that us LFC fans are the most supporting and forgiving of all. We let GH stay 6 years after all. But maybe we should be taking a more "f**k it all! Let's win the DAMN league! It's our God-given right" kind of attitude.

Look at Bayern. They fared miserably by their standards this year. What do they do? Massive overhaul and immediately they spend 70M euros on 7 players. Look at Barca. Same situation. Immediately splash the cash on Henry and a few more players. This highlights the "God-DAMNIT, I'm not going to stand for another lousy year" kind of attitude. Stop the rot before it even starts. Or at least, make a damned good effort in trying to do so. Even Man.ure can afford to spend MILLIONS on teenagers.

We, on the other hand, can still claim that we don't need to spend like drunken sailors and we still have time to make signings. To me, that just sounds like an excuse covering the fact we might not be serious (or maybe pressured is a better word) enough in wanting to make a real challenge for the title.

I really do like the fact the we fans are the most supportive and understanding. But maybe it's time we start showing how p.issed offed we are at not winning the league for 16 years now!!!!

Or let me put it in another way. Imagine (horror of horrors!) that we AGAIN fail to win the league next season. What do you think is going to happen? Major overhaul? We immediately make a 50M move for Kaka? 40M for Ronaldinho? Or would it be same old, same old...

I have a frightful idea it would be the latter...

Feck knows which fans you speak to, the ones I know are desperately p!ssed off at missing out on the league time and time again. You can still be extremely dissappointed without being aggressive and demanding immediate success from the manager. Yo have to show perspective, if you put so much pressure on the manager and he leaves your back at square one. You have to give Rafa the same time and support that was given to previous managers like Houllier. IMO, the development has been clear, we just need the next step which is top quality players and a bit of luck. If we were clearly making no progress e.g. Souness style then of course it's right that the manager is going to be under significant pressure, but with Rafa we know we have one of the best managers in the world. You have to ask who do you bring in and where do you start from if you sack him? I'd rather be patient with a man we know is a top top manager than be hasty and undo the work that has already been put in and that is going on at the moment towards improving our future.

I'd like us to win the Prem.

I just don't want the club to bankrupt itself into oblivion trying to win it.

And for how long are you willing to keep quiet about this? Throughout the Souness years, and the Evans years and the Houllier years.....

Though I do agree Rafa is a cut above them all. How much longer are we willing to wait? I'm not saying we fans are satisfied eating prawn sandwiches. Yes, we are buggered, but maybe not as vocal as we'd like. There is still a way to be vocal AND supportive of the manager.

Are you suggesting some sort of coup?

:Oo:

We are vocal, the manager and the club owners know how much we want to win.

Liverpool fans are desperate to win the league and my personal opinion is if we don't mount a proper challenge this season, Rafa has to go. I don't care how good he may be in europe, the league has got to be priority.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

So optimistic of you, I'll take it to the next level of pessimism....... who would you replace him with then?

Every liverpool fan would love to win the E.P.L   and obviously everyone is disappointed when we come 3rd in the league but i think thats a wonderful thing about liverpool.....we dont sack managers , we dont boo our players , we do things properly and obviously win alot of friends by behaving this way...i was at the barcelona v espanol match 3 weeks ago....barca were winning 2-1 but eto was still subject to monkey chants, grown men whom appeared respectable with their beautiful girlfriends  turned on their players as soon as espanol equalised....eto abuse...everyone abused........ so screw barcelona - they can spend all the money they like...... liverpool fans have a certain class which everyone loves, even my brother admires our genuine passion for our club (a dirty manure fan.).....
When we win the E.P.L i think we'll dominant....hopefully levia torres ( maybe !!) insua hobbs anderson ----- i mean im going full circle now cause last night i argued we need 100 mill but not necessarily- clever buys .......in rafa we trust

even if lfc dont win the league in the next 10 years. it worth make a diff - we will all still love them , back our players up - claim they are world class ( even tho they are not !!) cause we are the pool....

Wont even mention the fella name who if we dont win the epl next yr rafa should go--- bit frickle really
its like asking your dad to leave the house he built

i'm speaking as a person who doesn't follow european football a great deal, so i don't know who's great and who isn't on the continent, so i won't be asking for any european coach. I want John Aldridge for 2 simple reasons, he knows what it's like to play for Liverpool when we played football and not just thumping it forward and hoping for the best and he will surely bring back a bit of passion back to the club. I'd like Phil Thompson brought back as well and if I had to I'd bring Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan back.

before you have a go at me too much mate, couldn't agree more with what you said, and believe me I don't want Rafa to go and I doubt he will, IMO I think we have to mount a challenge, that doesn't mean win the league, just mount a serious challenge to prove we can cope in England as well as Europe.

how how how is aldo the answer - for god sake rafa is one of the best managers in the world...... passion can only bring a club so far..... i mean aldo was a great footballer ( irish great) but no way - he needs to stick to the pub business!!!! He has done nothing as a manager........roy keane did more in his first season that aldo has done in his entire career as manager. i mean mate im all for irish/english/scottish/welsh input into the club but not just for the sake of it??!

Sorry lads looks like I've made a mistake, looking back on what I did. Rafa will be Liverpool manager for years and I'll be fecking glad. As far as my Aldo and Thommo pairing, I just want to see some passion brought back and I think a few more of the kids will be giving a go. But I'm happy with Rafa, hands up I made a mistake saying I want him out (depending on our league form next year) but I'd still be happy to see some passion from the bench and on the pitch, except Carra, he knows what it's like to play for Liverpool.
