According to Skysports;

"Rafael Benitez is set to make his first signing since becoming Liverpool boss and he is returning to Spain to snap-up highly rated full back Josemi."

Does anyone know anything about him?  ???

The man who came to merseyside from Newcastle, the man who says he's part of Liverpool as much as the Liver building. When he was needed Alan Kennedy was there. And with now just 8 minutes to go it could be that Alan Kennedy has made a little history.

Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?

Finally some good news. The right back position has been one of out problem spots over the last few years. Benitez had excellent backs in Valencia. And hopefully he will bring the same quality here.

Appaently the deal is done for a four year contract , he's 24 and plays right back at Malaga , Diouf is expected to form some part of the deal .
We have Carragher plus Finnan and Rafa's FIRST signing is another right back ???
What do you make of that lads ?

I don't know what to make of it to be honest. One good thing that could possibly happen from this signing is that it will make Carragher, Finnan and Josemi (if he signs) fight for the spot, therefore making each other better....competition for first 11 is always going to be a good problem.

True but I wouldn't have identified the right back position as our first priority.
Hopefully this is only the first of his signings before the big kick off.  :)

Yeah, me neither. I quite like the sounds of this Coloccini fella, sounds like he wants to play for us too.

I do believe he will sign a few players, but not many...one or two and three at the most i would say.

I heard he was a right back, he plays in Spain :p

Maybe he sees Jamie playing elsewhere, centre half or left back he can do it all.

Liverpool sign Josemi

Liverpool have agreed a deal to bring Malaga defender Josemi to Anfield.

Josemi: Spanish persuasion (NigelFrench/Empics)

The negotiations were concluded late on Friday night and that the player will soon be jetting out to the USA to join the Reds on their pre-season tour.

The deal is reportedly worth €4million and the presence of Spanish coach Rafael Benitez at Anfield was central to the deal, according to Josemi.

'Malaga will make some money in what is a great deal, and I go to one of the top clubs in Europe,' Sky Sports report the defender said.

'And above all the trainer is a Spaniard like Benitez, which was partly a reason for me as well.

'I am going to work at a top club. It is what I have always done since I have been a soccer player.'

The 24-year-old, Benitez's first signing for the Merseysiders, is able to play at right-back and in the centre of the defence.

He started his career at home-town club Torremolinos before moving along the coast to Malaga as a teenager.

He has since moved through the ranks at La Rosaleda and is now considered a first-team regular, making 35 league appearances last season.

maybe beni sees him as a centre back? ???? it always helps to have flexibility in the squad. looking forward to our first real chance to judge beni's credentials:)
