3 CUPS FOR THE KOP – By Jim Dempsey

Kirkby based Liverpool supporter Jim Dempsey has been following Liverpool Football Club for over sixty years, read Jim’s unique story on how the treble was won in 2001 in this 96 page book.

Here are some words from Jim.

This is the story of a remarkable season 2000 / 2001.
In which Liverpool FC came from nowhere to win three cup competitions. The Worthington Cup, which they last won in the season 1994/95, The FA Cup which they picked up in 1991 / 92 and the UEFA Cup that so proudly rested in the trophy room way back in 1976. We had not won a trophy for six years, and just like waiting for a bus, you wait for ages for one to come along, and then three come up all together.

I have been a Liverpool supporter for sixty years. We have had better seasons, for example 1977 when we won the League and then went to Rome to win the European Cup for the first time. I went to Rome to that year and it was fantastic. At that time Liverpool FC were regarded as a great time, and rightly so. This time around, nobody fancied them to win all three cups, and were very surprised when they did. I was lucky enough to go to all the cup finals. The first one in Cardiff against Birmingham was good. The second one in Cardiff against Arsenal was superb, but the third one in Dortmund was out of this world and surpassed even Rome, due to the fact that we had just won the treble and had seen the greatest cup final of all time. Then to cap it all, we went to Charlton and finished up in the third spot to secure a place in the Champions League.

This is Anfield calling by “The Voice of Anfield” - George Sephton

George Sephton was born in Liverpool in February 1946 almost nine months to the day after the local VE Day celebrations. He was educated at the Liverpool Institute (now the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) where he was a contemporary of two Beatles and one or two other showbiz luminaries such as Peter Sissons and Bill Kenwright.

He has made his living as a freelance computer programmer for nearly thirty years, but, for most of that time has also been working for Liverpool Football Club as are match-day announcer / pre-match DJ.

This is the story of a Liverpool fan who achieved nearly all his dreams. In fact, short of pulling on the famous red shirt, he realised almost all of his ambitions. For over twenty-five years George has been the voice on the public address system at Anfield.
