I have watched the first forty five minutes with interest, and I must confess I couldn't tell you. There are a couplem of mysteries to me from watching the game. The formation is the first, where Ryan Babel is supposed to be playing is the second, and how we decided that David N'Gog was a viable replacement for Robbie Keane is the third.
All that said, if Torres is fit enough to come on we'll certainly win the game I think as long as he comes on while it's 0-0. Even if he doesn't, at some point we'll probably score.
My one worry is if Portsmouth wanted to put us under pressure they'd have to get Nugent to play closer to Crouch, and then get a central midfielder plus the guy off the left wing to arrive at about the same time as Glen Johnson hits Crouch diagonally from the right back slot, and we'll have real problems. As it's quite a simple thing to put into play, I'd worry about that a bit.
As a footnote, Glen Johnson has clearly developed out of all recognition over the last couple of seasons. I advocated signing him three seasons ago and turning him into a right midfielder. He could still be one, but he's a good full back now.
In the unlikely even that we're given 40 million quid to spend again in the Summer, whoever is in charge of the transferssorry
could do a lot worse than spend 12 million quid of it on him. Love Arbie to bits and all that, but Johnson would instantly improve the first team. That used to be what it was all about when you spent big money on players, although with these new ideas I'm not sure it still applies.
