No where near - 1-4

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby y cymro » Sun Oct 02, 2005 8:17 pm

Sad.....We needed to win today. At 1 - 2 down we had to try to chase the game and that was why Rafa took off two defenders. It didn't work and 1 - 4 looks really bad. Whether it was 1 - 2, or 1 - 3, or 1 - 4 does not matter that much. But the main point is we lost.
In essence the problem is that we only have 5 or 6 really class players who work hard and have the right attitude. [B].Most of the Chelsea players meet all 3 criteria.
BUT We have some players who have class but dont work hard enough and give the ball away too frequently.(Garcia).
Others who do not seem to have the attitude or class (Cisse - seems to have one dimension (pace) although I am trying to keep an open mind). Some do not have quite have enough class but try hard (our very one footed full backs Traore (rash)- 1st goal and Finnan (sleeping) 4th goal).
Others were good but are now well past their best (Hamman and Hypia  today) - In part todays problems with these players may be partly because Sami and Didi played two hard games within a few days of each other. But Sami is too slow nowadays, and Sissoko now needs to be in the team in preference to Didi.
It is too early to judge Crouch but I am worried that he does not seem to have a "fighting" quality (attitude) to really challenge hard for the ball and "make" high balls - eg run onto corner balls and look like he will knock players out of the way and claim the ball. The jury is still out and against lesser teams he will be a handful. But people were comparing him to Shearer - sorry not in the same class - and won't score a bagful of goals. [But on the other hand I still think that Cheyrou is a good player who was never given a fair chance by Houllier - so what do I know eh?]. Anyway although I am a bit down today, I remain a fan of Benitez and I think he will make things better - but it will take more time. I am looking forward to seeing who comes in at January. In the meantime lets get behind the team, and hope  they will finish better than last year so we can see progress.

Crouch could be good...but can we wait.

He seems intimidated by the players he is playing against.  He seems frightended to fight for a ball or make something his.

He needs to believe he is good enough, and that he deserves to be in the Prem playing for the European Champions, and make his natural attributes pay.  Instead of being brushed aside by defenders half his size.

For a long long time now we have had this habit of starting srongly, but then fading badly in games (Istanbul apart of course, but hey we were 3-0 down).

Today was depressing, and I think Rafa needs to recognise that the current system is not working and play 4-4-2.

He is trying to keep Alonso and Gerrard happy by playing 3 in the middle and it's not working.

Try 4-4-2 ffs, with Alonso and Gerrard and Cisse and Crouch up front.  We need to start winning some games.

January is a long way off, and even then I'm not sure we'll get all the answers.

We need to hope today was a one off, and we were chasing the game so 1-4 flatters Chelsea, but they deserved to win.

I feel like our season hasn't got going yet with all the interruptions for Internationals, Super Cup, etc etc.  I hope things get better and soon!

Big Cissy gonna get ya, Johnny Cac, Biggo Micko et al.. your boys took one hell of a beating...
Did i see the mighty (SSSHHHH we're losing..) Koppites leaving for the South East and Ireland early today before the final whistle? ??? Fickle whinging knobs, and clueless the lot of ya...the same fickle and whinging support i saw Weds after the game by Arckles (for the majority of plastic fans on here it's a pub near the ground) animated and whinging how you were back in the big time again after a nil nil...but the ref this and ref that..most of you probably don't go to games anyway...but if you do..i hoped you enjoyed today..what a game!!
Funny how quickly you've all turned on this board against the mighty Quiverpool and shooper Rafa.
Rafa the "tactician" was a bit quiet in the after match interview...according to the press, i thought we were supposed to be shown something to shut us up today? ????
you cling on to that fine comeback last year in the final - 10th in the premiership at best..you are poo..just admit it! Long ball Liverpool have faded just as quickly as those dodgy tans you got in Turkey...

After losing 4-1 at home it's natural to start dissecting the team.
Some justified, some not.

My opinion is let us see how we react to this defeat. We've got an international break coming up. Let's hope Rafa can rally the troops and get some positive results.
There are lots of people who are questioning Rafa's tactics and I must admit I have too. Let's see if he can get us back on track. If we fail to win at home to Blackburn then I will start to worry and I'll want to see Rafa change things, which I'm sure he will.
Rafa knows.

but will the season get better soon?
with the present set up 4-5-1 at anfield.were taking a step backwards. we are not playing to the strength's of the player's we have at the moment.we have to play 4-4-2 at home and let visiting side's worry about us,not visa versa. ???
