Before I get slated for mentioning a Scum player, how about putting in a cheeky bid for the England defender.
He's solid and would certainly improve consistency at the back.
He's stalling on contract talks with utd, and Rafa was talking of bringing a new centre back in today in a press conference.
wages might be slightly high, but he is a good buy. We haven't signed anyone major yet, for big money, this could be it!
before you all start laughing, think what it would do for our defence. hypia is often slow and isnt going to last the whole season if it goes to 60/70 games. him and carra at the back would be solid as a rock.

I agree with what the everyone else is saying. Rio is top draw and, on his day, he can be the best central defender in the world, but several things stand in the way, all of which have been mentioned.

1. Cost too much to buy
2. Cost too much to pay
3. Mancs won't sell him...
4. ... and if they did, Chel$ki, Madrid, Barca and a few others could beat us off without any effort
5. Why leave the security of Man Ure?
6. Money. I know that i've already used that one, but it's such an important one, it needed to be said again.

Mind you, Rafa did say that he had NOT been looking at Gallas or Upson. My money is on Milito.
