Is this the begining of the end ? - For the big finn............

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Ok so, every man and his dog connected with Liverpool are now happy and reasured with the signing of Agger. There might though be one man who isnt I suspect ,Sami Hyypia, does this spell out the the begining of the end for the big Finn ?
Sami has been a true pro and a legend since joining the club and has built up two succesful partnerships with Henchoz and now Cara.
Its a big ask to be playing the amount of football every season and not getting the required rest. So now Hyypia should get that and it may keep him on his toes.
But how will Agger be introduced to the side ? Rafa surely cannot keep changing the CBs around week in week out. This position relies on communication and knowing each others game inside and out. Its ok for a forward to come in or a midfielder but for a CB its not quite as clear cut.
Will Agger play only cup matches or will or should Hyypia start as second choice ( from next season onwards) so Cara and Agger will get a good understanding together ?

Whats your take on it people ?

I think its fairly obvious Agger has been signed to replace Hyypia. Rafa told hyypia that he was going to sign another defender at the beginning of the season - Hyypia knows the situation. If he has to take his place on the bench then thats the way it is.

Hopefully he won't become a whinging git like Dudek

Hypia seems better this year than last and I'd leave him and cArra play every game and have Agger as cover.

Next season though I'd reverse it and have Hypia as cover.

i did a thread about a month ago saying exactly
this
I think Hyypia is great but sadley i can see him being left out in the cold.
RB has his own ideas and I felt then that Hyypia days were numbered.

Sami's form improved last season when Pelligrino was brought in and being such a good pro i imagine he will welcome the competition. Agger has only played something like 30 mins of football in the last 3 months so he will be eased into the team at his own pace i suspect.

Sami has had a cracking season so far (cue Banana.) His game has never been about pace and he has steered clear of injuries virtually his whole career so i'm convinced he has a couple more years in him at the top. Of course, as Agger develops you would imagine Sami will begin to see less playing time but with the sheer volume of games we play there is more than enough playing time to go around.

I'm encouraged to hear that Agger seems to be a similar player to big Dolf in that he is tall, good in the air, a sure touch and has great positional sense.

We all know that ... Buying agger is NOT to replace him NOW but for the future ...

I think people need to be prepared for the fact that Vidic and Evra are pretty much gonna walk straight into the Scum team while are boys are gonna be on the sidelines for a fair bit..

If the two United lads are an immediate success then inevitably the question's will be thrown about with regards to who got the better deal.

Patience will have to be paramount though, given that our lads are more for the future and to put pressure on our current first choice back four, whereas United have bought to plug holes in straight away...

I think some are being a tad unrealistic and expectant about our two new signings and are expecting great things straight away, when clearly, that's not going to be the case.

And besides, our back four is awesome anyway, it's just that we've now got the reassurance that should and injury hit centre back or right back, we no longer have to rely on the inept services of Traore and Josemi..

Hallelujah!  :D

And how can you trash Traore;he helped win us the Champions league.
Every player makes mistakes and traore has his fare share, but hes a decent defender and the best left back we have.

Anyone remeber the games against ManUre in the 2000 season?

He's still young and I would think he would need to get his head around zonal marking and the way Raffa wants him to play.

Carra and Sami will be first choice for the rest of the season, Next year could be different though.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
