for me he'd get 15, but not be involved in any more than those 15 and he'd be annonymous the rest of the time though. thats my point. i can't see him becoming a top class player.

Do you remember blokes like Gurd Muller? Never did a tap. Could score you a goal though. Lineker didn't do much other than score, neither does Owen to be fair. Not saying Earnshaw is anyway near as good as 'em, but goalscorers score. if they score they're OK, if they don't they're rubbish. That's the nature of the job.

Even leaving Earnshaw's abilities aside, its not as simple as simply lifting him out of Cardiff/WBA and putting him into a Liverpool shirt. Better players than Earnshaw cracked under the pressure of moving to Anfield.

Heskey (after making a blinding start) being one of them.

One of the biggest dissapointments of all time. What a player he could have been.

No argument from me there. Used to do it occasionally as well. Once or twice a season he was unstoppable.

Also add Dean Saunders, Stan Collymore, Christian Ziege, Nigel Clough, Paul Stewart, Nick Barmby, El Hadji Diouff etc.

Clough, what a player he was on the old Champ manager. :D

I never understood why he never got a real chance for us under Evans. I thought he was half decent and he seemed to score and create when he played.

So Heskey cracked and Stu could be fitter those are sound arguments.

But leaving the sarcasm there Im with Bigmick on this as Im from Cardiff and have seen Earnshaw progress.

He's no Owen I agree but who is

He is cocky and confident and does one thing that sadly no other Liverpool player in our current squad can do and thats naturally score goals, they will go in off his bum, back of head he gets deflections etc etc he is a natural goalscorer simple as

i've heard he only gets a bath on wednesdays, which is such a shame as Liverpool FC require it at least 3 times a week, guess he wont be joining us after all.

he also listens to Peter Cetera, who Benitez dislikes as one of his songs reminds him of his old girlfriend, which upsets him.

Sorry Robbie.

The point I was trying to make is that to be a player in a top flight league you don't have to be above average in every attribute.

As in Earnshaw's case he is a small player with pace nothing more yet like you said he will score goals at any level.

So according to you he could play in any position in the lower divisions and he would stand out a mile ???
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

Sorry for sticking my 2 pence worth in
But I'm sure a certain Kenny Daglish  (towards the end of his management era in Premiership) said "If you can run for 90 minutes and tackle, there's a fair chance you can play in the Prem League"

Admittedly - he was probably with Newcastle at the time.

I think Earnshaw could become a very good player - but no someone we need to be looking at in our current situation.
I agree with a lot of other peoples comments - we need someone in who is proven and is not gonna wilt under the expectation - whether we can afford it is another matter entirely.

Peter Cetera Jim? ET to his mates? Can't say I've got any of his albums but I'm sure he had one big hit. Bet you know it? As for Earnshaw wilting under the wieght of expectation, this is unlikely as there plainly isn't any. :D

What gets me is that our Champion teams of the past are not capable of winning anything in todays Premiereship??
Are fitness levels so much greater now? Wasn't the old First Division bigger than the Premiereship? Didn't the same team compete in the League Championship, FA Cup, League Cup, European Championship/EUAFA Cup(sorry can't spell it). In those days, there was no such thing as rotating players to give the poor dears a rest. They usually didn't play cos they were injured!! Also, a big point is this, Liverpool, nor any other team at that time would dream of playing a second stream team in the early stages of any domestic cup. It was a matter of pride, and at one stage was considered to be a matter for the FA to investigate.
The difference between then and now is MONEY and INVESTMENT. Players, whether they warrant it or not have been subject to inflation, liken it to the house market; a garage can sell for far more than it is worth, well over £200,000 in London. So too can a player in my opinion.
Any player who is valued in the £million bracket is an investment, he has to be looked after, his every whinging need pampered to.
