Have we hit top gear yet

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

been looking back at the games we have played so far this season, and for me we haven't really hit top form.

I don't know if its just me who thinks this.

You cant argue with the results he have been getting week in week out sitting nice at the top of the EPl (AND IM NOT SLAGGING US OFF)  but i think there is more to come, Another gear so to speak..

We haven't hit it off in the final 3rd especially the partnership between keane and torres has shown glimpses of quality but hasn't got going and i feel that there is alot more to come from the two center forwards.

What has been nice to see is rafas willingness to go for the points, yesterday going to just 2 centre backs and dropping xabi in and flooding there half.

The way i see it things can only get better and soon as the stupid silly mistakes sort themselves out at the back its only a matter of time before we do hit top gear and smash some one with a 4-0 5-0

Just wanted your thoughts or am i being over critical

Yep i think your spot on,i still think we have a few gears to go to really find our top form, what is good is we know that come the 2nd half of the season we normally go on that run that sea's us one of the better teams over the 2nd half of the season, so while we are finding our feet at the mo i think if we can make it to xmas withn touching distance of the top we will have a great chance come the later part of the season.

If hitting top gear involves having to come from behind in five games out of 13, then we are. Except we're not. Defence could tighten up a bit, but the goals are starting to flow even though Keane is still not getting many.

Yesterday was the second comeback not involving Torres, the other being Man Utd. Isn't it odd the two games he's missed this season we've had to come from behind. But it is good news, some of us were wondering what would happen if Torres got injured or couldn't repeat last season's form. And Mascherano has only played four times so far, coinciding with Rafa's best start and an excellent start on two fronts - CL and Premiership

I think we seem to be winning games predominantly on the basis of one thing at the moment - our fitness.

I've never seen teams struggle to match us in the second half like that have this season - admittedly we are conceding all to frequently and having to come from behind, but we seem to have the will, endeavour, belief and legs to keep pushing until the final whistle goes.

i think the key is rafa,

Im sure he thinks sod it lets go for it,

like yesterday we went to a back 2 and flooded there half, even when we got back to 2-2 he kept it like that, were as last year i think he would of settled for the draw,€

The closest we've come to hitting top gear so far this season I think is the last hour against the Mancs. We battered the scum bags but even that wasn't what I'd consider our top gear.

Nearly all of the wins we've had so far we've kind of stumbled to really; only the games against the Bitters and as I said earlier the Mancs have been games that we've really dominated and made that domination count. In all of the other games the lads have barely gotten out of 2nd gear for me never mind third.

What I think has paid off for the team other than their fitness is that old chestnut 'ROTATION', or lack of. The team has been settled and although one or two mistakes defensively have crept in recently, I think the settled line up has helped the team mount these impressive fight backs.
Add to that more understanding of each others' game amongst the players as the season progresses and we may start to see a more fluid game that will see us raise our game those extra few gears.

For me this is all rafas hard work over time he has been at our club getting the team very fit teaching them basicly a whole new way to play but also keeping the basics of liverpool at heart (Great passing and movement).

We haven't from what I seen even get out of 3rd gear I hope we can hit 4th or 5th vrs chavski on week end then we will be sending the message this is our year and not a :censored: thing you can do about.

I also feel if rafa wins prem this season we will never get rid of him  :eyebrow and personaly I would never want another manager if he can do this and make all our dreams come true.

Rock on Rafa ,,, Rock ON  :buttrock

We´ll only find top gear once Keano settles in and starts to create sufficient a threat to stretch defences more leaving space for Nando and Kuyt to exploit with Gerrard coming in to form another dimension.

The combination of Keane, Nando, Kuyt and Gerrard should distort defenses so much we should - inevitably - score 2 goals a game.

In short Keane is the last piece of the first team jigsaw with the likes of Babel, Benny, Ngog etc.. there as added dimesions to spice up the second half.

The future is Red.

Agreed - I think when you have a player who cost £20m up front who has had the time on the pitch that Keane has, but isn't firing, you have to say we're not close to top gear.

As you say, when we see the best of all those players on song and in tandem, then we'll be somewhere very close!

I hope it's soon!

if we can get all those players on form plus the likes of babel coming off the bench then maybe we can challenge this season . Agree it needs to be soon . Signs are good with torres and kuyt playing well with gerrard in certain spells playing well . Add keane and reira to the mix with babel as impact sub then things can be good . Also need to stop the silly mistakes at the back but i expect they will go with agger getting games under his belt and hopefully dossena settling in

performance wise we are still away from our best, mentally though we are very very strong. Once our performance level gets upto stratch we will be very hard to beat.

nowhere near as far as i'm concerned, which makes it all the more exciting when we do hit top gear.

this season in the league we've played well in about three halves of eight games. second half against united, everton and man city.
