Good football - Remember it

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

do you think liverpool play good football? the type you would enjoy watching if you were a neutral.

I remember the 1988 team being a joy to watch. It is hard to admit but manure and arsenal play  a more open game than we do.

some think that just because roy evans team (surely the last one to play good football) wasn't a great team that the two are mutually exclusive i.e. that you can either play attractive football or be successful.

rafa's valentia team played good football, I don't understand why we don't play that inter changing, free flowing game under rafa.

Yes, the current liverpool football is not attractive. Too tactical form my point of view.

The big clubs are 50% tactical game and 50% freedom for the players, but benitez is too tactical. "Corsé Style".

Rafa's Valencia was not that attractive to watch.  The Valencia sides pre benitez were better to watch. Roy Evan's side was better to watch than Houllier's and Rafa's.  It will never change under Rafa.  He cannot be positive first.

I wouldn't mind boring football if it was winning football. When its neither it does leave me feeling a little frustrated. Still we have a cat now so all is not lost, I can always give it a good kicking. (Note to Judge, I said KICKING)

Yes I don't really care too much as long as we win. That said, as I 've said many times I do think if we were more attacking we would be more successful in the league.

It would be nice to play a bit more attacking football, the sad thing about it is that we can do it! When we go behind to a team and we really have to attack them we look a great team

Unfortunately it takes us to go one down for this to happen

each to their own but if I was an arsenal fan i really would have found it hard to get excited about george graham's team. would you?

i believe that the best teams' are usually the best to watch and that the good football is not a luxury. think brazil 1970, ac milan in 1990s, liverpool in their prime, aresnal going a season unbeaten a few years ago, manure for most of ferguson's time, real madrid when zidane was in his pomp.

I just saw the irish team rugby manager (who has made munster the best team in europe) and he said that he leaves the players make the decisions out there. there is no reason football should be different, it should not be about footballers just doing what the manager tells them, the manager should just send out top players and give them the freedom to play.

you don't achieve greatness by setting out to stop the opposition, break up the game, keep it tight, be terrified of losing posession in your half etc.

a manager should trust that his players are better than the opposition and that if he lets them play the  game as they see fit that they will win.

I don't know, I reckon most Middlesborough, Man U and Chelsea fans enjoyed watching us today!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Yeah we do play ugly sometimes but if ugly brings results who cares!!! But in our case it dont.. Under roy evans we did play some great football and were known as the pass masters of mid... If only we had a strong defence then....

To play great footy we do need additional attacking players....

In some ways I think Rafa is too tactical, tries to win games by "being clever" with his tactics rather than putting out the best XI and letting it do the talking. When you are underdogs, second favourites, then you try and gain an edge with a tactic. How often do these tactics pay off and how often do they balls it up? I wonder how much his tinkering disrupts the players, Kuyt and the rest wondering if they'll play, and if they play where, and if they're losing if the manager is going to do anything about it before it's too late.

I think a lot of people on here have lost faith in Rafa's team selections, tactics and his ability to change a game - why should the players be any more confident in him? Benayoun must have wondered if he was being punished for scoring against Real Madrid by being benched against boro. Perhaps Rafa has too much faith in his own tactics and overcomplication of football which is supposedly a simple game.

I was getting my car MOT'd on Friday, I jokingly said to the receptionist I must enjoy suffering as I support Liverpool, the England rugby team and the England cricket team - none had a good day yesterday  :(

Sad but unfortunately true. They must love it when they don't even play and we just lose ground.
