Liverpool's route to the Champions League final

Round of 16: PSG

Quarter-final: Aston Villa or Club Brugge

Semi-final: Arsenal, PSV, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid

Final: Benfica, Barcelona, Dortmund, Lille, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Feyenoord or Inter Milan

Top half of the draw was definitely more difficult and we will certainly have to beat the best to win this year. PSG and Madrid seem to be peaking at the right time so tough but not impossible. If we can get back to the control we had we should do fine as these teams play open football and that suits us more.

Potentially could face Villa in Quatres and Arsenal in semis and that is if they get past Real. Top half is definitely difficult than bottom half.

Barca or Munich in final from other side.

Yeah, got the tougher path sadly. Would much rather face Bayern or Inter in the semis (if we get there) than Real Madrid or Arsenal. PSG will be a difficult one as well.

The bizarre thing about PSG is that aside from Dembele - who has only recently got his head together and started to deliver - there aren't many in that side I think is all that good. Yes they beat Brest 10-0, absolute hammering, but you wonder if that's more about Brest finally imploding after over achieving this season. Not that it won't be tricky.

We should get past PSG but then a tricky quarter final and we should manage that then a tough semi final and that is where we will probably face an inform Real Madrid and they may want revenge. If by then we can get back to playing the control football we had first half of the season we should beat Real as they do tend to over achieve in the CL. Still, you want to be the best then you have to beat the best. Worry is getting up for lower level PL sides in between these matches, thankfully our rivals have the same schedule.

Does anyone know whether our seeding means we play at home second at every stage? Surely if the draw is set then we have the advantage of playing at Anfield for the second leg all the way to the final if we make it.

Edit
According to ChatGPT no we don’t and there are separate draws after this next round

Clearly coming first in the group stage gives only a minimal advantage

What are your guys thoughts on our UCL chances?

Imo it will be dependent on how far adrift from the others we are in the league. That way slot can somewhat rotate.

If we get past PSG we could be facing Villa, which won't be easy.
However in a 2 leg tie I'll always favour us.

Funny enough if Arsenal get to the semis I think that period will face them 3 times.

I'd like us to win everything but realistically I'd take the League Title over this. I wouldn't be too bothered if Slot rested a few for the PSG game and if we get through so be it.

If we beat Newcastle and Arsenal don't beat Forest, I think we'll be able to afford to get a bit greedy and go for both titles.

I'd fancy us against PSG as they have no pedigree in Europe at all. 12 french titles and 0 european cups/Champs League.  Lets face it they're poor in Europe

Villa, Arsenal, Dortmund and Real through.

Watched the penos for Madrid match, very unfortunate for Atletico. Would be nice to see a different team win, kind of fed up of Real.

Uefa says it will discuss the rules around penalties with the game's lawmakers after Julian Alvarez's spot kick was disallowed in Atletico Madrid's Champions League exit.
During a penalty shootout in Atletico's last-16 tie with rivals Real Madrid, Alvarez slipped before scoring past Thibaut Courtois.
However, following a review by the video assistant (VAR) referee, the goal was ruled out becaue the Argentine forward was deemed to have touched the ball twice and Real went through after winning the shootout 4-2.
On Thursday, European football's governing body Uefa said that despite the law being applied correctly in Madrid, it would review the current rules with the International Football Association Board (Ifab) and world governing body Fifa regarding cases where a double touch is "clearly unintentional".
Article 14.1 of Ifab's laws around a penalty states: "The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player."
In a statement, Uefa said: "Under the current rule (Laws of the Game, Law 14.1), the VAR had to call the referee signalling that the goal should be disallowed."
Atletico have lost all six of their penalty shoot-outs against neighbours Real Madrid in all competitions.

*****
I think it was a ridiculous call. Another clear example of VAR spoiling football

Taking a page out of the PL’s VAR errors. “We see an error has been made and we’ll look into it. Meanwhile the big team can get away with it until we make that change”

These advantages always seem to benefit the bigger teams. Had this happened against Real there would have been a hellfire storm and probably a court case.
