ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL - Keep your heads up!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby SouthCoastShankly » Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:02 pm

Bloody hell lads - keep your heads up. Last night was crap but we have a massive game on sunday and time for us to start focusing on the league and our future. These stats (BBC Sport) should help you see the bright side.

- Claimed 10 points from the last 12 available in the Premiership.
- On the longest current run in the highest League without conceding a goal.
- Completed four League games without having the goal line breached, or 405 minutes (six hours 45 minutes) of Premiership football since Luke Young scored Charlton's second in their 2-0 victory at the Valley on 8 February.
- Won 16 Premiership matches. Only Chelsea (23) and Manchester United (17) have won more.
- Shipped 17 goals in the top table. No club has leaked more, although Chelsea have also conceded 17.
- Kept 19 clean sheets in the top flight this term - more than any other club.
-The goalless game, home to Charlton in the most recent Premiership outing, was Liverpool's first no score draw in 24 Premiership matches.
-Matching their best points return after the first 28 matches of a Premier League season. Also had 55 points in 1995/96 when finishing third. The Reds have never had more than 56 points after 20 games.
-Conceded only once in the opening quarter-hour of top tier matches this term.

HEAD TO HEAD at Arsenal
League: Arsenal 35 wins, Liverpool 20, Draws 26
Prem: Arsenal 4 wins, Liverpool 5, Draws 4

there back 4 will be on a high and our strikers are down in the dumps at the moment

crouch and fowler is the only choise imho

henry is only stoppable if you cut the supply to him, and i know he is capable of magic but if you limit the amount of ball he has then you have a good chance

this is a great chance for the lads to bounce right back and i have a funny feeling that this could be a classic arsenal lfc clash, and what a game for robbie to break his duck for the forth time

come on red men.. lets push for second in a big way

no gloom here

Quite a suprising statistic when you think how strong Arsenal have been since Wenger took over.

This is no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We'll have to pick ourselves up straight away. Ideal scenario - 'over confident' gooners, 'wounded animal' reds = away win! :D

A few weeks back I said they were the worst Arsenal team I'd seen at Anfield for years and years. However since then they've knocked Real Madrid out of the CL and spanked Fulham 4-0 away in the Premiership.

If we get in their faces, then we'll have a chance. Stand off them and they'll tear us to pieces. Morientes surely can't start this one. Give Cisse a run in his preferred position or play Fowler.

                                    Reina

        Finnan         Hyypia        Carragher        Warnock

        Gerrard        Hamann       Alonso            Kewell

                          Crouch         Cisse

I've drafted Gerrard out wide right again so that he can double up on Henry defensively when he invariably drifts out to the left wing on several occasions.

If all our missed chances turn into goals we'll win about 25-nil!  I wonder if our strikers will score any...imagine the headline "STRIKERS FAIL AGAIN! (as Liverpool beat Arsenal 25-0)"

I think that we are better than them, and fortunately we have one day more to rest and prepare the match. Plus, qualified CL teams always have a "hangover" after that, so I think we should go for the 3 points.

Not this week, but I think from now on we'll notice a lot being out of the CL, as it's not the same to prepare a game in a week, or having a game in wednesday.

Come on reds!

Edited: What a terrible lapsus/mistake I had, they also played yesterday  for some reason I thought for a moment we lost on tuesday, I think it's my wish to leave behind that!
Anyway the "hangover" effect is still there :)

This would be my team (if hyppia & riise still haven't recovered).

                       Reina
    Kromkamp  Carra  Finnan  Warnock
                      Hamann
      Gerrard     Alonso    Kewell
                 Crouch

You'd play finnan over Agger?

its gotta be cisse and fowler upfront for me.... when fowler gets tired bring on couch - see if he can have the same imact as he did for england...

                                  Reina

       Finnan         Hyypia        Carragher        Warnock

       Gerrard        Hamann       Alonso            Kewell

                          Fowler         Cisse

or the other option for me is Kromkamp on the right, stevie in the middle with either alonso/hamann

Tho i think crouch will prob start - which i wouldnt complain at... as long as moro and traore are not in the 11.... or the 16... or in liverpool football club (whoops. sorry went too far.) :p

You'd play finnan over Agger?

i am going for experience......

Don't get me wrong. Agger might do a good job. But with henry in such a great form, i just think that finnan might be a better bet in CB.

On 2nd thoughts, seeing how weak warnock was, i would play the below team... (finnan at left back). Finnan is just so good, i reckon he can play any position in defence and midfield.

                        Reina
    Kromkamp  Carra   Agger  Finnan
                      Hamann
      Gerrard     Alonso    Kewell
                 Crouch
                            Cisse

I don't like giving starting elevens, as coaches never use my opinions, but

------------Queen

Finnan  Carra  Agger  Riise (Warnock)

Gerrard   Hamman   Alonso    Kewell

--------------Garcia   Crouch

Crouch does a good teamwork, and Garcia has the ability to sneak into small spaces, finishing and giving some good passes, plus, I preffer a ball lost in the forward, than in the midfield.

as everyone knows, i'm not a fan of cisse (he can trap a ball further than i can kick it) but surely saturday is surely an ideal chance to play him down the middle. if anyone should be able to feed off crouch's knockdowns, it's cisse.

it makes it even more baffling that FSP was allowed to go on loan. if cisse was used as a striker then i could possibly understand it but using cisse down the right is an absolute waste.

One things for sure I do not want to see Morientes near the squad, you have to be cruel to be kind, I will be really dissappionted in Rafa if he starts him.
I hope Hyypia and Riise are back in the squad, unfortunatley I cannot see us winning there, and Ill settle for a draw, which will be a good result for us at Highbury because over the last few seasons they have walked all over us at their gaff.
I know they are not that same team but they will be full of confidence knocking Real madrid out, where as our confidence is shot to pieces at the moment.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Morientes probably will start

I feel that arsenal played so above themselves for the Madrid game that they'll be easy prey for the pool
