i think you will agree that the premiership as now split into three different leagues. top of the league are chelsea arsenal and man utd, way behind them are liverpool everton aston villa charlton ect,then we have the yoyo side's.we haven't got the cash to compete with the top three at the moment so the best we can ask is to maintain the posistion we are in. but do you think that we are in dire danger of becoming another aston villa spurs ect, unless we recieve a massive injection of cash.?

Very good post and an important point, I feel it would be good to discuss.

We have a couple of weapons in our armoury that can give us some hope. As we saw at Valencia, Rafa knows how to get the best from his players. This season already we have actually seen one or two competant performances from the likes of Diao and Biscan who in previous years have produced about as much as an epileptic in a strobe-light factory. He had no money in Spain and against the likes of Real and Barca, he managed to actually win the league. This will be harder in the Prem, but with wise investments, rather than expensive mistakes (al la Houllier) he has a chance.

We are also starting to reap the profits of Liverpool's success in the 70s and 80s as players who supported the team as kids now want to play for the club. Kewell and Cisse are prime examples of this and I am without doubt that there are others out there.

But to answer the question as to whether or not we are destined to become another "once were champions" teams if we don't get big money soon? The answer is yes.

I think I have made my feelings clear over the past few weeks on the subject of major investment, so I won't plow through all of that again but needless to say that I am 100% in favour of getting a big lump of cash to invest in the club and that, as long as they don't devalue the club, I don't care where it comes from. Do I think we'll get it? Yes.

Thankfully the name LFC is still held around the world in high esteem even though our glory days are long gone. We are still famous and with us being the last 16 of this season's CL, we are more noticed than last season. So the prospect of major investment is more realistic and with the likes of L4 and this mysterious Sheik known to be interested, it is feasable that others are also interested in at least enquiring.

If we've also got an Arsenal-esque stadium sponsorship deal apparently in the works, it could mean as much as £100m coming into the club. It will certainly help but in the long term, an Abramovich Mk II is the best solution.

Is this about greed? No, it's about the harsh facts of mosern footballing reality. We need money to climb up to the likes of the top three. Rafa's management will keep us in possible contention for a while, but Ca$h is what sp£aks these days. We need it. Quick.

I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know if we're are going to become another Aston Villa or Tottenham Hotspur however I feel that Benitez could get us on track to glory even without major funds. He's done it in Spain and possibly he can do it again here.

Real Madrid and Barcalona have all the money in the world but couldn't outclass Valencia even though Valencia have no where near the funds Barca and Madrid have.

Chelsea has become the Brittish Real Madrid. The only difference between them and Madrid next season will be the fact that their kits are different colour the rest is the same. Chelsea has just signed contracts with Siemens Mobile and Adidas, however even though they have huges amounts of money that doesn't gurantee them anything.

Yes they can buy any player in the world but that player could get injured and what then? For instance look at Arjen Robben, before he started playing for Chelsea they were hardly a threat as far as fire power is concerned as they won games "1-0" constantly but with Robben they've scored more goals. Now Robben is injured and they might crash and burn hopefully its not against Everton.

The fact I am trying to get across is that money can't guarantee you much as far as success is concerned. How much money do we need? Millions,billions to succeed? Yes we need money but I don't think we need 120 billion dollars to get a balanced team to challenge the title.

Two or three more class players and we could start thinking about lifting the Premiershp title.

Yes we need a bit more money but it won't guarantee us anything. I rather see us work our way up to the top than buy our way to the top. What happense when Abramovich goes bankrupt? Surely Chelsea won't last much without him so you can't really depend on money.

Well put Ace and AB, for me we have that little bit of extra class that seperates us from the likes of Villa, Everton, Spurs etc, but if we are too keep in touch with the top 3 we need funds.

So I think we are in danger of just accepting 4th palce as an achievement every season, or being best of the rest so to speak. To compete with Arsenal and ManU and even Chelsea, although we can't possibly compete finacially then we do need investemnt into the club and reasonably soon.

L4 looks the best bet for me so far, they have successfully turned the New England Patriots into one the best NFL sides in recent history.

They wouldn't necessarily take ownership of the club, with Parry and Moores still running it, but with investemnt coming from them in excahnge for some sort of imput and sponsorship towards the club.

We wouln't be selling our soul, as we would still be English run and owned. The sort of people we have to steer clear of are the likes of Abramovich and Glazer, and the board has laready shown theat they are not willing to let anybody invest in the club, as they have laready turned down Thaksin the Thai PM, who would have been disastrous IMO.

The decisons they make now though are not only important in the short term but the future of the club for decades to come.

Unfortunately that sort of wealth is usually acquired through dodgy means by the person or the person ancestors .
Have to agree with LFC #1 that we seem to be in a group of our own maybe along side Newcastle (though you wouldnt know it  on basis of this season) who arent seriously challenging the top 3 but arent in the Villa/Spurs etc league either
We certainly do need investment and while its a frustrating process i rather they take their time and get the right money rather then rush and regret the decision in the long term

in the race for fourth place, if everton beat chelsea, the confidence from that will in my opinion ensure that they go to the end of the season with any slip ups and will grab 4th.  lets hope chelsea do us a favour and tw@t them and we beat birmingham.
