When you get the ball, I want you to beat a couple of men and smash the ball into the net, just the same way you used to at Bury," said Shankly. Lindsay replied: "But Boss that wasn't me, it was Bobby Kerr." Shankly turned to Bob Paisley and said: "Christ Bob, we've signed the wrong player."

Hi Gaz,

Actually XP is much better than 98, it takes a bit of getting used to at first though.

Make sure you use Windows Update regularly to ensure you have the latest security patches from MicroSoft these will download and install from the Internet as needed.

Also Anti-Virus software is an absolute must Click here for a free version of Anti Virus software

just one thing I had problems putting my scanner on,in fact when I tried to load the software it totally crashed my computer/broadband connection.I purchased a Belkin adaptor but that didn't help either. So I go without the scanner.Anybody had a similar experience?any clues to rectify problem?who has broadband/windowsME and a scanner on their computer?

You may have an Anonymous FTP, this is a log-on convention many Internet hosts support that lets you retrieve files from their FTP servers, even if you don't have an account on that computer. However, you can't send files or use it for general access to the host. When the work of providing information to you on your computer is divided appropriately, a remote computer provides the information and is termed the server, while your personal computer provides a familiar and easy- to-use interface for that information and is termed the client. The intent is to optimise the speed and ease of use by allowing each of the computers to do work for which it is best suited, and to minimise the exchange of information on the network, which is usually the bottleneck.

There may be a problem with your gopher, developed at (and named after the mascot of) University of Minnesota, Gopher provides a simple means of presenting information to users in a series of menus. In the relatively short time since Minnesota released its software, Gopher has been adopted by hundreds of institutions to provide directories of students and faculty, course lists, and thousands of other documents. Interned resources provided on Gopher servers generally can be viewed as Web documents that lack formatted text or hypertext links.

Or check your modem, a piece of equipment that connects a computer to a data transmission line (typically a telephone line). Most people use modems that transfer data at speeds ranging from 1200 bits per second (bps) to 19.2 Kbps. There are also modems providing higher speeds and supporting other media. These are used for special purposes--for example to connect a large local network to its network provider over a leased line.

You could try a good virus scanning package like Sophos. I'd be tempted to install Spybot Search & destroy too.

Download Ad Aware from here.

Download Spybot Search and Destroy from here.

Download the AVG antivirus from here

I got rid of Norton Systemworks 2003 and put this in as Norton slows your PC down dramatically.  AVG is free and both just as good and easier to use.

Also, check out this link here.

An educated guess?  Sounds to me like you have a Trojan or virus.

And finally, I looked around for you and it looks like this guy had a similar problem to you.

Hope it helps.

Good one Johnnymac, can definately recommend Ad-Aware, it will pickup and sort out most spyware.

The latest version of Norton Internet Security + Anti Virus is pretty good and doesn't seem to grind your pc to a halt like the 2003 version.

Dunno if it has something to do with Opera, but i experienced the same thing having twice installed the browser: counting down and shutting down
What always works for me is restoring your system to particular statement (in XP it's the easiest, just use the system restore and go to a point where you assume not to have such problem.
