U.s about to default on their debt?

Surely the other big story, that will get a lot bigger if things go the wrong way is the US potentially defaulting on their debt. What would this mean in terms of a knock on result to other countries if this happened?

The asian markets open in a few hours and if they don't strike a deal tonight they will probably open with a dip.

I guess I should learn how to speak Chinese... I wonder if they will just combine the national teams or will we still be our own country? The United States of China maybe?  :p

Mr. Obama has done a "fantastic" job.  Thank God for all his "hope"  All this "hope" has really gotten us far.  I'm so full of "hope" that I'm "hoping" I won't end up as a slave for a Chinese prostitute company.  Obama has done nothing for this country.  They say Bush put things off, but oh my goodness... Obama it's been a couple years now and I'll you've done is set up a health care plan that hurts everybody in society that actually works for a living.. And it was full of stupid little clauses that hurt small businesses like crazy.  I thought helping huge companies was more of a Republican thing, and yet small businesses has been killed by the Democrats and big businesses have benefited from the stupid extra expenses small businesses have to deal with.

Good job Obama... I agree, we should put your picture on paper money.  I love how he will be remember for being the first black president, not for the fact that he managed to get this country in even worse shape than it was.

I don't think you can really lay this mess at his feet. If anything he is trying to fix it but it's the republicans trying to force it another way.

He spends more time with the press than being president.  He's not taking initiative.  What he's done has only hurt, he literally is yet to do anything productive.  He has the final say and he lets all this bullsh!t go because he wants people to think he's doing something.

We catch Osama Bin Laden, Obama gets all this credit even tho he did nothing.  The headline don't say "U.S. will do what they can to help the Norwegians affected."  It says "Obama will do what he can to help the Norwegians affected."

He takes credit for anything positive, and for some reason anything negative is never associated with him.  The press and citizens have made him a celebrity because he's the first black president, and that's all he'll ever be- a celebrity.  People will remember him as a celebrity, not one of the most worthless presidents we've ever had.

They will probably raise the limit as the fallout of defaulting would affect everyone. But they need to find a long term strategy and start cutting money in a big way.

They already started, they just stopped the space shuttle program and that's a massive cut right there

This will affect the UK and many other countries too, as the US is the cornerstone of the global financial market.

They'll figure it out.... the problems are more political than structural, unlike say Greece for example..

Anyways, no way they're defaulting... The market for T-bills would collapse and that would make the 'financial crisis' of a couple of years back look like a pat on the shoulder..

Republicans keep resisting for much longer and they'll start getting a whole more stick from the public very soon... I expect it all to be over in the next 48 hours though..

I love the way Americans blame their presidents and politicians. Well, who voted for them?

I sure as feck didn't!

But who voted for Sepp Blatter? Oh wait...  Who the hell is going to vote for McCain when he comes hand in hand with Sarah Palin?

Obama's not doing what he promised he would do so as I see it we have every right to be angry with him.

And by the way... We aren't the only ones who blame our politicians...
