Reading through this thread I see constant references to "problems" with consoles. Will someone please enlighten me as to why given the apparent recurring problems with consoles so many choose to game on a console as a opposed to a pc .

I've been thinking of buying a console for gaming BUT given some of the comments in this thread I'm thinking the money might be better spent upgrading my pc

Get a ps3 mate , its the most stable on the market now , graphics are superb , games are reasonably priced but you can't download them like the xbox

Go to GAME and only GAME, and stick down 90 quid or there abouts for a refurbished Arcade 360. Dirt cheap for such a system with an extensive catalogue of quality games. If you're used to PC, then the 360 is the next best thing for a PC gamer due to LIVE, not only that, but it's got the best RPG's on the market so far if you're into those. The reason why you must get one from GAME, though, is because if you pay 15 quid (I think) they will cover your machine for a full year, so basically if you get the RROD, you just bring it back and they hand over a brand new one hassel free. You can even kick the :censored: out of it if you wish and they'd still replace it. It's the only way I'd ever touch one of these things, so thank god they are doing things that way. I would not buy a brand new 360 from another shop even if you paid me with the reason being that the thing is a cert to red light a few months down the line.

Thanks for the feedback lads. I do appreciate the comments relating to "will my graphics card, processor etc etc run the game" as I have encountered that problem . However, casting about on the net there's some pretty hardcore PC's out there for a reasonable price and graphic cards , processors etc etc can always be upgraded as and when required, the cost of these upgrades is surely more than offset by the money saved not buying console games.

Ivy from Soul Calibur wins hands down !

As for the console vs PC. With a console the games are simply (or at least used to be) made for the sole purpose of playing games. If you just want to play a game, then a console will do nicely. However as much as I have praised the Xbox 360, the feature I dont like is the Xbox Live. Its great that you can play games with your mates online or indeed with anyone, but you have to pay for it. Which is a bit unfair. Most people have PC's and consoles and pay regularly for a connection. Microsoft know this so try to make more of the Live accounts. Now your paying for the internet and to play with your mates on a console. This doesnt bother me too much as most of the games I play online are on my pc. And so, no extra cost, just the occasional installation of the latest patch for whatever game your playing.

Ive upgraded my PC to 4GB ram, Dual Core Intel processor (overclocked) and A Geforce 9500gt graphics card. The PC cost me, £500 for the pc, £30 for the extra 2GB Ram and £50 for the graphics card.  I sold my old pc for £400 and raised the rest to get this one. Was it worth it? Definately.

I tested a game on my PC (Devil May Cry 4) while my oldest lad tested the one we have on the Xbox. Performance wise, no difference. The cut scenes were better on the PC.  The real difference was on completion. On the PC, you unlock Dark Knight Mode, which means more enemies. The PC can handle, when upgraded, so much more than what consoles offer, of course a games controller for the PC helps immensely. However, consoles do put all the effort into gaming, so like I said earlier, if you just want to play certain games A console is the best one to choose. If you want a good all rounder, an upgraded PC can offer practically everything you want. In the end it comes down to preference. I prefer the PC. When this goes wrong, I can fix it myself, if the console packs up, im clueless and have to send it off for repair or pay for a new one. But thats just me !  :D

Stupid question for anyboy that has played COD% World at war.

How the hell do you get on the roof in Courtyard? I see people on top of the roof
shooting people in droves and can't figure out how they get on top of the bloody roof.

I suppose it's some sort of glitch, but i wanna go up there and kill the feckers

So if anybody knows your input would be grateful.

Cheers.

Bit behind the times there. You're talking emulation, which you can do with most consoles over 8 years old now. NES, SNES and Megadrive emulations are mint, but some N64, PSX and Dreamcast games are not 100% as yet. I agree though. It's great that you can just download these games at the click of a mouse and revisit them for free.

You should check out MAME32 also. All those old arcade classics you pumped coins into as a kid now a click away. They can be a bit awkward, requiring multiple files to run, but well worth the effort. Just seeing the original arcade version of Killer Instinct running on my PC for the first time seeing it since 1995 in the arcades was a crazy nostalgia trip.

My xbox(non 360) was modded, I've had NES, SNES, and Sega emulators on that for yours.  About 50 games of each, and over 65 xbox games saved on the HD.

Hands down best way to use a console, $150 console, $50 gets some used controllers, and $7 to rent a game and save it onto the HD.

Good times :D.

Too bad i love xbox live to much to mod my 360 :(
