Every year i hear how EA have really changed the game and made it ultra realistic, and how it will be better the PES. Then i play it and it's the same completly average football game, with average graphics, rigid gameplay and poorly researched players.
Pro evo for me everytime, never fails to deliver and is consistently good every year, the only thing Fifa has on PES is the official licences.
PES has basically gone backwards. Say what you like, think what you like, but this is a fact. I've been a PES player since the first games 10 years ago, and they were progressing right up until PES 4, but after that one, they all started being the same. Actually, the last one I truly got into was PES 3 on the PS2, but I found myself not really interested in newer ones as the years went on. I wondered why. Thing is, they've been running out of ideas, and Konami often insisted on doing daft things like including nice little features, and then in the newer version taking them out. The first 360 effort was a complete joke, as the PS2 version was far superior with added modes and features it didn't have. Teams were stripped from it, as were kits, balls, etc etc. PES 2008 came out, and all of a sudden people's eyes were opened, when it was obvious to me a few years before it what was going on. The series was side stepping, going backwards, and sidestepping some more. Never going forwards, especially with the new consoles. PES 2008 on current gen systems was an absolute disgrace and should never have made it to gold status for retail. The PS2 versions were again vastly superior with smoother gameplay and touches like extra modes etc etc. This may be acceptable to blind fan boys, but not someone like me who expected the series to take on a new lease of life with newer consoles. As it stands, last gen versions are better. Go play PES 2 or 3, then play 2008 on a 360/PS3. Night and day gameplay experience. They hacked and hacked at the game due to lack of ideas, utterly destroying the feel of the game and has become very arcade-like. Also, the visuals for the current systems are a complete joke, and I don't care what anyone has to say about it. They are unacceptable IMO. PES is still running a last gen engine on technology designed to run something that is 3 or 4 times more capable, but Konami obviously aren't willing to spend on resources to improve the development of the series which is a massive shame. I find it odd that people are willing to still accept last gen style visuals, coupled with gameplay that isn't even on par with previous PES titles, and still think it's beating Fifa, which TBH is a generation ahead both visually, and technically with physics and currently AI. Everything Fifa 09 does, is just simply a level above everything PES is doing and has done. People complain about slow gameplay, well, football can be that way you know. It's a total sim, not an arcade title like PES has become. It's a shame, but this is how it is. You just have to open your eyes to it.
Theres no doubt that Pro 2008 was a disapointment, and it's clearly still a last Gen/PS2 game, BUT it's still superior to FIFA which is just such an average game IMO. EA tried slowing it down to make it more realistic, which it isnt, its just stiff, rigid and dosnt play anything like real football.
Pro 2008 was clearly a lazy effort with very few new idea's, but the player movement is so much smoother and more realistic. FIFA has improved from the joke of a game it was a few years ago, but it just dosnt have the same feel as PES.
The player movement is so much more realistic in PES? That's a joke, right? One of the harshest criticisms of PES is the animation system which basically makes the players look like they are robots on rails. The "Baywatch" animations as they are called, and for good reason. Don't agree? Look at a video of Fifa 09, then go look at PES 2009.
As for the feel of the game, it's true that Fifa last year was very sluggish, but it was still playable and a lot more of a solid game than what PES 2008 was and the one before it. Truth is, I'm always waiting on EA making good on their promises, and they never do, rarely. They talk their games up, and they usually end up playing like sh*t. But this year I've been waiting, I've seen their promises, played it, and I have to just throw my hands up and say "brilliant - well done!". From the videos, and the demo I've been hammering away at, it's clear to me that this is the best football game I've played in a long, long time. It's certainly the most realistic by a mile. Animations are amazing, stunning in fact; and graphics and player faces are just so good now. It used to be PES faces were far superior, but now Fifa's ones just make those look like a complete joke along with the rest of it's visuals. You just have to give credit where credit is due. Fifa 09 is a amazing playing football sim, with absolute second to none online features and authenticity. For the asking price, it's a no brainer which is getting my money compared to the poultry effort Konami is once again bringing to the shelves.
well i played the FIFA demo today and wasnt overly impressed but im playing on buying in then trading it in when PES comes out, so thats a few weeks for the game to impress enough for me to change my mind on trading it in, but i doubt it.

That's a good idea that one. It seems like most of us are investing in the new FIFA, so we'll have to set up a tournament/league of some sort. Give us a month of practice first though eh.

We always say we'll have some new-kit games online but it NEVER happens mate, I've played again DWard on Halo a few times but apart from that I've never play against any others.
