Went round my mates last night and had a play on his PS3, I went there with an open mind but to be honest I wasn't that impressed, he has Resistance fall of man and Motorstorm.

Resistance: very nice game, the graphics are good and the gameplay is pretty tricky, the oppo need a good amount of bullets to go down which is pretty good.

Motorstorm: I love driving games and this is really fun, the visuals are fanstastic and once you get used to the speed/controls it's really enjoyable but the levels did take a little long to load.

I have to say their are some disapointing things about the PS3:

1.  Controller, it's nice and light but you find that if your hand sweats at all the controller becomes slippy, especially when playing Motorstorm cos the trigger button isn't a proper trigger and more of a button which is  problem, for example when playing Motorstorm the trigger BUTTON is used to 'go' and x is used to boost the vehicle, but when you have to use the two your finger slips off the 'trigger'  :no

2.  The GUI isn't too great, especially compared to the 360 Dashboard, basically all the PS3 GUI is a carbon copy of the PSP one.

3.  Online, it's not as detailed as the 360 setup, you don't get the detail you do with the 360 like comparing games, achivements, etc.

4.  Audio, their isn't any capability which allows you to stream your music from your computer to the PS3, which in my eyes is a massive let down as I and most 360 owners play our own music while gaming, this is something promissed with the PS1, PS2 and the PS3 but still Sony fail to deliver.

I have to say though that their are some kool things like their aren't any power or cd tray button, instead it's touch sensitive, also you can use any bluetooth headset for online play which I think is fantastic :)

All in all the PS3 from what I saw (2 hours worth) the PS3 is a great console with some nice graphics but the thing that lets it down in my eyes is the menu setup and the online features, once again Sony are chasing Microsoft in the online area of the market, apart from the Blu Ray drive I really don't think this console is anything special that commands the £450 price tag, especially when the games line up for the rest of the years isn't that great!

I played the same 2 games over the weekend :D ;

Resistance was cool, played really smooth but the game was nothing ground breaking - enjoyable FPS all the same.....

MotorStorm was simply AWESOME! gotta say ive not seen any other racer thats this visually impressive - one tip, if u want a proper adrenaline fix from this game, switch to bonnet cam, not only does it look faster but u get get a real sense of fear from not seeing the much bigger vehicles trying to stomp all over you from behind!

i have to agree with your assesment of the PS3 GUI, although it seemed right having owned my psp for some time.....
i think things will change for the better when Sony release HOME for the PS3....

I started playing it, I liked it. I ride my horse all the way. I infiltrated that red priests cave and still not sure how I got alive from there. It was fun until I had a hard disk crash and lost the saved games.

I didn't feel like making all the game again,I wish I had the time. Right now I'm rehooked to civilization 4, I love the game, but his flaw is that you need time for it aswell and I don't have much.

Honestly?

its great fun for a while. Then it sort of.....loses its charm when you Max out and lose interest in the missions, in favour of just ar5ing about over the city destroying/jumping/destroying/bit of racing...destr...

you get the picture.

However, there is rumoured to be new DLC on the horizon soon. This may freshen things up a bit. Maybe not.

If i was to give you any encouragement to buy the game, it would be justified. If you like rampaging 'mad style' and launching yourself earthwards from 100 odd metres way up above/blowing sh1t up....then get it. If you like a bit of sophistication to your shooters, look elsewhere.

Me, id give it 8/10 for fun. 6/10 For replay.  It does, however look and largely sound, great. Much mirth to be found teaming up too.  Id recommend it (by and large). Or, if in doubt. RENT!

Crackdown is a fun game but its very simplistic. All you do is kill the enemy: there is no variety in the missions. You kill the bad guys' footsoldiers, then you kill the mini bosses, then you kill the kingpin, simple as that. There are no missions where you have to "drive to X point, meet with Y character, and deliver Z package". Instead all you do is take out the bad guys in whatever way you see fit, which usually means one of three things: shoot them, blow them up or kick the c.rap out of them. Its fun, but limited.
