Happy St George day to everyone.

it always amazes me how many english people go out of their way on St Patricks day to celebrate, but ask the same english person when St Georges day is and they will look at you blankly.

Yeah, but St. Patrick's day is a party. It's a time to get tanked and an excuse to drink Guiness and get one of those funny hats. Ironic really, as St. Paddy was staunchly apposed to alcohol.

Of course the great irony about St. George, the BNP and National Front's symbol of racial prejudice was a moorish warrior spirit who is probably worshipped more in the east by Muslims than he is here, in a country which he never even visited.

Besides which, I'm British and I don't consider myself to be English (except when football is concerned). There's too much culture in these isles to limit oneself.

I think it's a joke how people have been indoctrinated to feel embarrassed about being English.

It all boils down to the wet-nappy brigade.

"Oooh - you can't be PROUD to be English - that might make the 5 foreigners in your town uncomfortable."

"Oooh - you can't celebrate St George's day, unless you are a racist."

"Ohhh - you can't have a dead pig in your window, Mr Butcher, as some soft Muslim might take offence."

WHat a load of sh*t this country's Politicians and local Councils spout.
You're not even allowed to fly St George's cross in your own f*cking garden, incase it upsets some foreigner who is actively encouraged to flaunt their nationality/beliefs. FFS - why, when this is a democracy (alledgedly), are us Limey's not allowed to be proud of our heritage?

Blair - you are a pr*ck. (And you're Scottish, which explains everything.)  :no

And how, pray tell, is that racist?

He IS Scottish, and set the wheels in motion for devolution, which for me explains why everything English is ostracised.

If you think that is racist, you really need to get out more pal.

It does sound like you are suggesting that it is his scottishness which makes him favor devolution and makes him a :censored:. And this isn't the first time that a dodgy comment about Islam has appeared in one of your posts. You did call it a "crack pot" religion the other day.

If I'm mistaken I will be more tha happy to retract the statement, but I fear that won't happen.

st george is patron saint of catalunya aswell (sant jordi) so there's a big celebration over here too and of course the fact that we're in spain means that there IS a party in the streets, free concerts (though mostly sh!te music), drinking and dancing. unfortunately though the catalan people can be just as jingoistic as anyone when they put their minds to it, but no one seems to give a damn and accept it as an inevitable part of international or interegional rivalries. as long as no one is being incited towards violence or any kind of intimidation against other nationalities or races i don't see much of a problem.

over here the tradition is that the guy buys the girl a rose and the girl buys the guy a book - great deal if you ask me! but my girlfriend is all for equality as well and demands that i buy here a book aswell.   :D

If I'm mistaken I will be more tha happy to retract the statement, but I fear that won't happen.

I think, if you read back, you will find I was referring to Bin Laden's taint on Islam, and not the true religon itself.
And I am sorry, but any religon which thinks killing is a good thing IS "c*ck-eyed" in my book. (And "c*ck-eyed", where I come from, means bent or rather "not straight". (As in: "That picture on the wall is c*ck-eyed".)

I have absolutely nothing against any religon, provided it doesn't try to justify mass genocide.

I have no problem with Muslims, other than the ones who bitch and moan about our national practises, such as a butcher hanging a pig in the window.
I do not try to stop people of differing beliefs from putting rice in their hair, or wailing to a wall, or even being Baptised.

SO why should followers of other religons be able to change all our ways to accomodate them, even though they come here to avoid being murdered in their own countries? As a nation, we are doing them a favour, are we not?

It just doesn't make sense to me, or the Muslim, Pakistani and  Indian friends I have. They all think that it's absurd aswell.

I am not a racist, that I can promise you. I just say it as it is, or at least how I see it.
If more people did that, the World would be a much safer place.
