Which school are you applying for?
I live in Southern California, 6 hour drive from San Fran and a 45 minute flight. Went there with my family over summer and a week later with my girlfriend. It was a bit cold for summer, but only because I'm from southern cal... it's always way hot here, so it would probably feel nice to the average person. It can be a bit windy tho, especially when you get out in more open areas. I liked it a lot tho. Had a great time. There's always a lot to do. Going into the city is always fun, and the coastal places to visit are a blast. I don't know if you would get tired of it but it's still a beautiful area. Much more pretty then Toronto, I can tell you that much! There are loads of things to do, a whole bunch of different areas to check out. It's VERY hilly in areas, but transportation is easy and there's many options. Lot's of traffic. If you go outside the city a bit tho, traffic isn't quite so bad and it's much nicer. It's warmer because it's off the coast and not really windy. Beautiful summers in the suburbs.
There's a place called Haight and Ashberry, a couple streets that cross each other made famous by a movement in the 60's. I don't care about that much, but there's a bunch of shops and stuff and there's a Liverpool bar there. I'm not 100% sure it's a Liverpool bar, but I walked by and there was a huge banner hanging that was half a huge Liverpool crest and half a Carlsberg logo, so maybe it was just a Carlsberg advertisement, but I'm pretty sure it said watch Liverpool here or something. I know for sure it's a football bar as I was there during the world cup and they had every country that was involved's flag outside and everybody inside was watching football.
There are some really nice and pretty areas to go, and it's a pretty nice area. There's a china town where you can buy all your black market type stuff for really cheap. Really is a nice area, highly recommend it, especially if the other place is freezing Toronto. There's Golden Gate park that is really pretty too, but if you go there during the weekday, everybody tries to sell you drugs. A lot of homeless people live there and drug dealers go there. During the weekends tho, a whole lot of homeless, tho some not homeless, people get a huge group and play a billion different instruments literally all day, non-stop. Families go there during that time and it's pretty nice.
Lot's to do, and there's different sceneries. I'm sure you'd love it.
DESPITE THE FACT I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA...
