Cheers folks

Had some good seafood at Paradosiako on Voulis st in the Plaka.

Best Souvlaki (greek doner kebabs) was at Thannis on Mitropoleos st near Monastiraki.

Favourite was a place called Telis on the cnr of Evripidou and Epikourou. A bit off the beaten track, never ever saw any tourists when I went there but it was always packed with locals. A great place for lunch (they don't open a night), specialise in grilled pork chops a serving of which is big enough to feed a small army.

General tip at most restaurants the "greek salad" is just a green salad with some tomatoes and a MASSIVE slab of feta cheese on top, usually costs around 5 euro, unless you really like feta cheese one is enough for two -three people.

Good tip, Woof. :nod  I well remember those bricks of feta!  Another tip, if you order the chicken special in any joint in the Plaka do a little investigating before you dig in.  We were halfway through our meals when it dawned on me that I couldn't identify what part of the chicken I was eating...and I had spent my uni years working in a chicken processing plant over the summers!  The whole thought got decidedly more disturbing when you start looking at all the feral cats wandering around the place.  Gives a whole new meaning to tastes like chicken! :D

It's a sh.ithole. I was there for the champions league final, everything sucked, especially the food.

If you must go, pack your own food.

Must admit Greece isn't my favourite when it comes to dining out, most of the main dishes seem to be served lukewarm rather than hot .

Babu, after the final, if you'd headed into the nearby port of Piraeus, along the harbour front you would have found some "working class" cafes serving simple but very very good food.

Surely the Greek beer can't "suck" any worse than Aussie fecking beer. It's carbonated water, pi$$ weak and only gives you a headache.

Does Athens have a Hooters?

I always find it funny when people say they go to Hooters for the chicken wings.  Yes the chicken wings are good.  But c'mon.  Be honest.  At least admit that the tight tank tops and tight short-shorts are a factor.

I man of mystery.....  :eyebrow

I spent 9 months there in 1994 up and down the mainland, thoroughly enjoyed it but most people are probably unaware of how cold it is in winter. Snow, ice and fk all heating in the hotels. I used to go to bed at 9-ish just to keep warm. When I wasn't in the bazooki bars that is...
